I haven't logged into this site for quite some time. And I haven't had my 70 Coronet out for even longer. I got an itch to pull it out of my dad's storage shed, that's going to happen in the spring. I got sidetracked with motorcycles and other cars for several years. But it's an original N code automatic Coronet 500. I put a 440 in it 24 yrs ago and pulled the 383 out, which I thought was a replacement engine. I looked at the block a couple of weeks ago and low and behold, the VIN number matches by the oil pan rail. What confused me long ago is there is no HP stamped on this block. It's a 383 4 Barrel, not considered a magnum. Has an AVS, Magnum exhaust manifolds, no windage tray, has the Magnum valve springs, and it's blue. Also the block has a casting date a February 1968. But a 1970 March 31st assembly stamp on the pad. Also it has a 999 paint code, and the original color is 69 turquoise Q4 with a white vinyl top and white interior.

This would be the 330hp motor. That is why no hp and it is blue. I cc'd the heads and with the pistons. .035 down in the hole it's 8.5 to 1. These are all stock components. Advertised compression data was often inflated.
 
Since it’s a Lynch Road car.....does the fender tag show 089 for the engine assembly?
 
So Im just doing a re-ring and bearing to pop it back in this spring. I ball honed the cylinders, had very little ridge, had it washed, I measured and polished the crank, cam, rod and main bearings from eBay. I had some left over big block gaskets and bought a few. The oil pump looked like new, that got new o rings. I ve had a set of trw lifters for 10 yrs, I'm putting a summit 6400 cam in too. I'm going to put some nice used 1.74 ex valves in some 516 heads and some pocket porting. They cc'd at 81, the 906s were 92 cc. So with a .020 metal gasket and .035 in the hole it'll be about 9.4 to one. Minimal money spent. I have the stock intake, carb, and manifolds from the car. Putting a windage tray too. So basically building a 383 magnum. I've had good luck doing a few engines this way if they're in pretty good shape to start with. I've spent a lot on an engine too. That's fun and faster, but this will do.

I noticed it had a double roller timing chain in it, and a couple of different pushrods. Looks like the chain went at one point and all of the pistons have little valve nicks in them!

The Summit cam is backordered so I put in one I forgot I had. Little more duration @.050 than the summit 6400, but should still run good. Basically the summit 6401 but on a 112 lobe separation and a little earlier intake closing. Dynamic compression calculates out to 8.5 and 170 psi cranking pressure. Did some bowl blending on the 516s too. Stock intake and carb. Might dyno it.
 
Can't wait to hear this 383 run again after 25 yrs.
