Cut and paste from DodgeCharger,com.....

"just wanted to let you all know, GYC will be going back to how it used to be the previous couple of seasons ABOUT THE CARS.

they had received input from Motor Trend wanting the show to be more about people + stories then cars. we all know how that went.

so it'll take a couple of episodes before you see the changes, but the episodes will be about the cars, like they should.

so be patient and if you enjoyed the show last season then you'll enjoy this season after the next couple of episodes.
if you never liked it, then you still won't then."

See ? They do lurk and respond sometimes!

The MOPAR community will again respect Mark.

I'll tell you the episode where Mark's daughter is on the phone with OSHA and Dougie interrupting looking for Mark is not only scripted, but bad acting, bad timing, and no comedic value whatsoever. It was bad TV for GYC.

Here is the recipe I would use for GYC; focus on MOPAR restorations and the stories behind the people that have the $80,000 plus dollars to sacrifice for their beloved ride. I think you'd get the non MOPAR car guys watching just for the stories on the $$$$ to restore at GYC.

Thanks for the post Kern Dog. I enjoy the show but was also a bit put off by what Billccm just wrote. It’s good to see that Motor Trend has the viewing public in mind when it comes to what they put on air.

If any of these "reality show" people were decent actors, the "drama" wouldn't seem so bad. A skilled actor can make you forget they are acting....you just believe the role. Denzel Washington, Harvey Kietel, Kurt Russell....they all are so good that I find myself forgetting any of their previous roles when watching them.
Cousin Douggie may be a great car guy but he is BAD for TV. He is as stiff as plywood and about as funny.
Denzel probably couldn't rebuild a 440 but he is a great actor.

they lurk and hate on people also
I will never respect them as they don't respect others opinions.
I bet that last thread gets them ratings
as everyone likes watching a good train wreck..
people like watching Jersey Shore
so they will always find a audience

I usually get about 6-8 minutes of quality viewing out of an entire hour with my DVR , and that's almost all paint and body. we'll see if that changes.

You and i are reading Kern Dogs post differently. The way i read it, motor trend was responsible for the move AWAY from car restoration, toward more personality and drama bs. Motor trend believes their shows all have to be personality driven, we car people can't really just be interested in cars, can we?

Just correcting Kerns spelling.. LOL. Not Tony D'Augustino but Tony D'Agostino…….

During the first 2 or 3 seasons, people complained about the interactions of Darren, the son in law and Mark. Mark must have listened because soon, the two were gone. I think that most viewers that are FBBO members liked Dave Rea and appreciated his no-nonsense approach to the show. It seems the worst thing is when some Corporate idiot that is so detached from the subject matter steps in to change the show. This happens everywhere. These guys sit in an office and with absolutely no practical real world experience, dream up new ways to "Improve" things.
The same thing is happening at my new job. The Superintendant on this jobsite runs around like a headless chicken trying to micro-manage every aspect of the job. He has no Carpentry or framing experience yet he feels qualified to tell us how to build things. His efforts so far have led to making the work more difficult and slower to complete.
If the Motor Trend TV guys were listening AND if the ratings slipped, it is possible that they saw the mistake and are correcting it. I can respect that.

I hadn't watched the show for some time because of all the goofy bad acting and the silly stuff. Then this Summer I caught the episode where they were teaching the chick how to build an engine. It was a good episode , and I learned some stuff from it. And then the last time I watched it, it was the same old silly stuff. Maybe that was a re-run.... I prefer the ones that show how they do things...........MO

Corporate minions think any racing or car show will automatically draw the fringe audience, we car nuts. They think they have to have drama and bullshit to attract a wider we-dont-really-care-about-cars general audience. Thay don't seem to realize that car shows don't attract a non-car audience, and that the drama and bullshit just pisses off the people that they take for granted.

Maybe Motor Trend should stick to magazines.

No, they screw that up, also.

I have watched for years now except when it got so thick with the BS and interplay that there was little reason to watch. Drop all the BS !! Focus on the "doing" and "details " of a restoration.

While WE might like that to be the plan, no corporate midlevel manager is going to lose his/her job by not offering up ways to gain a larger market share of viewership, which is where the money is. They have weekly meetings to hash out what can be done to boost the bottom line. They don't give a rats *** about the cars, or about us MOPAR guys, just about how many viewers they can drag in. Period. Anything, any gimmick, that makes that happen is fair game. They don't care if it's MOPAR car guys watching, or dishwashers, or prostitutes, or bricklayers watching.

Still not going to watch.

Car guys in general will watch this Hollywood stuff hoping to actually learn something, they will watch a how to do of something they have done many times in the hope, they will see something they do not know how to do!
Like in real life, I NEED NO drama!!!!!!!!! Now for the next set of 3 minute commercials.

Darren couldn't leave program the fast enough ! Agree that non-car people screw things up thinking it will be better. Ebay screws it up the best, newest example little hearts on car parts JHC.

Exactly. I don't get the show on my dish package, but I used to watch on u-tube. So I sat and burnt up a half weekend watching this show. Like stated early watched trying to learn something new. For every episode might get 3-4 minutes of useful knowledge. These forums are certainly more informative. So I haven't seen a episode in a few years. Not enough bang for your buck. And like also stated earlier I wasn't watching for the drama. YMMV
