The window felts with the "wiper" style design is still available through a variety of vendors, I believe. They were sold under the Repops branding and initially was the first aftermarket style of window felts available for the restoration market place for the Mopar product line.
After not being able to locate a correct style of reproduction window felts, I was able to find Dave Mihalko back in the early 80s as he was making a correct version of the felts for the GM guys.
Dave and I started working on the Top Catwhiskers for the Chrysler line. Our goal was to make the most correct felts possible to duplicate the original felts. Over the years, we have been able to find some of the original vendors for the felt materials. Most of this material has been dropped over the years and we have now been required to have the material reproduced. Some of it is 100% correct and some in my opinion is say 98% correct. All of the factory style clips and placement have been duplicated with in house tooling.
The factory style felts in my opinion are the best application for both fit and purpose. The problem with the aftermarket style of rubber "wiper" style of felts is that the rubber lip of the felt actually lays up against the glass. With this process, it does a couple of things. The first is that it can make the rolling of the glass up and down more difficult as it puts pressure on the glass. Secondly, the rubber lip is not flocked. The flocking makes the glass glide more smoothly with less resistance. Thus as the glass goes up and down, the rubber lip will end up twisting and wrinkling over time. Eventually just like a wiper blade, the rubber lip will end up breaking or cracking due to exposure to the elements or use. And the worst feature is due to the pressure and no flocking, there is the very strong possibility of the felts scratching the glass as it grips the glass as it rolls up and down.
You could go the route of sourcing a better functioning style of window felt material as used on the current production cars. It will take some effort to find one that will fit nicely and you could attach with possibly small rivets or screws. The problem is most vendors will only sell in four or eight foot lengths and if you want them to fit as the factory felts, you will need to be able to put a slight radius on them where the felts transition into the C-pillar.
Hope that this may help to educate you on the design and purpose of the window felts. There is a wide network of vendors selling the Top Catwhiskers and I offer special pricing of the felts to the members of the forum. If any additional questions, just let me know.
