It turns out that almost every modern vehicle is recording just about everything it can find about you, including your contacts from your smartphone, your driving style and habits, where you go, how long you're there . . . the whole schmear. We have no idea how much of this is being uploaded to the vehicle's manufacturer, or what they're doing with it once it hits their servers. Their conditions of service simply give them the right to collect it - and we're told nothing more. We can't even opt out of it unless we deliberately refuse to subscribe to many of the services we've come to take for granted in modern vehicles; and even that may not be enough to ensure our privacy.

Hacker Uses Chevy Volt to Show How Much Cars Spy on Their Owners

Im not a new car guy. Or anything to do with computerized hardware cars. I like cars that are simple . Even with new cars that have lots of horsepower . I figure I can still get from point a to point b without have to deal with technology to get me there. Seems nowadays there are folks out there that have the ability to get into your life via your phone and car . Not a good way to live. Thats like a lurker you have no control over. They cant mind there own business but have lots of time to mind yours.

Heck one of the insurance companys has an add out, bragging that they can monitor how you drive. Haven't you seen the add where the guy in the challenger tries to get the guy in the minivan to streetrace?
So, if i take my new hellcat (theoretically) to my local dragstip and make a few passes, does my insurance get cancelled?

You have to keep up on all of the new technology in your vehicle. One thing
you MUST do is as soon as you buy a new or newer vehicle, locate and
unplug the event recorder. Screw-Em!

Most insurance, for decades, will not cover any form of racing.

That's not what I meant, Mike. I know they won't cover on the strip. What I meant was-they can't tell you are on a strip, all they can see is 130 mph. Cancelled !

On the cars we test there is a little computer in the back seat recording and sending info in realtime. One driver got called and was told to shut his gas filler door. I don't even WANT to drive the Hellcat.

My newer daily driver is a 1998 and the other is a 1965. I do not think anyone is watching me.
Mike

Not much different than what they track on your cell phone. Oh, turn off your GPS on your phone if you're not useing it. They're watching!

I inherited a 92 Taurus this year. Prior to this, every day I drove either a 68 Sat or a 73 RR. I work on modern cars 5 days a week. I have little desire to own one. And I have a flip phone.

I drive a 66 fury or one of my harleys in the summer and a 97 dakota in the winter..good luck following my butt

Like if something is going to happen that you can see about to happen that will jeopardize your life and you step on the throttle to save your ***. Your cancelled. The insurance does not know why, just that you did it.:steering:

Man, everyone needs to chill.

Why does everyone think "they" are watching you?
What makes you think "they" even care about you???

I know guys that street race new cars for years. No insurance issues.
Anyone here have a personal friend that got cancelled because of driving fast??

On the other hand, I DO know 2 guys that had IRS trouble.
Now, the IRS is something to worry about.

Decades ago, before cell phones and hi tech cars, my late brother in law was on a Grand Jury. He freaked out. "THEY" knew EVERYTHING about him.
Anyone on a Grand Jury gets investigated, thoroughly.

Funny, he thought he was off the grid. Little did he know!!!

There was a news doc few years ago demonstrating how a car could be hacked taking control away from the driver...brakes, steering, throttle, turning on wipers, changing volume of the stereo, etc. Cars are rolling computers...then the driver less technology now...times they're a changed. One day computers will learn to conceive and take over humans remember 2001 Space Odessy...don't leave your male computers alone with female ones. Someone will invent computer condoms before it's too late. Oh the humanity!

Skynet will become aware!

Actually, there is a REAL company called Cyberdyne.

"Cyberdyne was founded on June 24, 2004, by Yoshiyuki Sankai, a professor at the University of Tsukuba. as a venture company to develop his ideas for an exoskeleton suit. The name is the same as a fictional company from the Terminator film series, which also produces robots."
