Second transmission with no luck...

Haha! looks like we both share the same neck of the woods, this weather sure doesn't feel like christmas. I think I have been to that dragstrip that you mention near Pasadena
You talkin bout the old one (no longer there) or the newer one in Baytown?

So I have a brand new and fully-rebuilt 1985 727 transmission with a brand new converter I have all hooked up to my sb 360. I have been as meticulous as possible with every nut and bolt and triple-checked everything I put on this thing and fired it up this morning (was hoping to take it for a spin on Christmas). What ended up happening was I pulled out through my driveway which was a slope and seemed to glide out okay when I was feathering the gas, but right when I hit level ground it literally was limping inches with the gas pushed way too far down than it should need to. I'm talking inches, the TV cable is adjusted and hooked up properly, I actually made it tighter second-guessing myself. Not sure if it was even moving forward at all after a while, I only got about 20 yards and I think she just stopped moving, then I put it in reverse and I was getting nothing from her. I put 5 quarts in and before I had even pulled out I checked the fluid in park and the fluid sat right on full while running. Some people are saying on forums you need to check the fluid in neutral? Maybe I don't have enough fluid in the trans to build pressure for the pump? No smoke had happened during the process, any help and feedback is greatly appreciated, Merry Christmas!
Checking fluid level. Level ground, warmed up, in neutral. Even one quart low will cause no moving.

The one closer to Baytown, I've been there dozens of times. I think it might've been my first strip I went to

If you use pc, laptop or an ipad go to mymopar.com then tools & reference and look for a service manual for your car. You'll ahead of the game.

Yeah I'l definitely be remembering that one the next time I find myself working on it

Every time you struggle you learn & since the knowledge is hard won you will remember it...

Yeah I'll do that for sure, I'll save it to my home page so I can always have it ready to be used lol

Couldn't have worded it any better, I remember speaking with you before this post too. Thanks for all the help over the past problems, I don't post much, only when I'm really in the rut but you really know your stuff

Thanks! I've had a few hard won battles too....

thanks for the pics
several sources for a D or R clunk
looks like we covered most of them

Bad *** looking ride. I'm not usually a fan of oversized wheels, but on your car they look awesome. The primer, with the black hood and those wheels makes for one cool looking ride. If it were mine, I would leave it just like that!!!!

Just curious, open question to ALL automatic transmission B-Body owners, STOCK transmission:
How many of your stock B-body cars chirp 2nd gear at or near wide open throttle?
My STOCK 71 Charger R/T 440 4bbl would chirp 2nd at or near wide open throttle every time. I really liked that. I did have to replace a broken driver's side motor mount when I bought it back in 78, and broke that one eventually. When I installed the 2nd new motor mount, I installed a homemade turnbuckle, and I knew when it needed tightening because 2nd gear would stop chirping the ONE tire (open 8 3/4).

Back in the 70's chirping second with a 727 was typical, the 1-2 shift is pretty crisp & the tires back then sucked... Bolt on a set of modern sticky tires & chirping takes a little more....

I had Delta 60 Road Max radials, 3.23, open diff...on the Charger.
Still, really cool to chirp 2nd.
In the Roadrunner, I had a real loud 1st to 2nd chirp, more like squeal at the 1320, but that was when I was power shifting for the first time at the track. 315/35/17 Drag Radials, SureGrip, 3.54 Dana 60 at the time of this video.
