Bellhousing alignment ?'s

I have never played around with bellhousing alignment, but am trying to learn. So am I thinking correctly that in a perfect world I would need a pair of .009 offsets? Seeing as though they are only sold as 7, 14, or 21's. I should buy a pair of .007's?

I used his offset dowels when I set mine up.

One word of caution that occurred to me when I installed mine. There is a set screw “expander” type locking screw that sets them in place when you get them indexed where you want them.
I’m sure one could crank them enough to break the block around the dowel pin hole.
Not saying you are going to horse them in, just as I was setting mine up, I thought about not overdoing it.

great topic i will doing this in a few weeks had no idea how to do it,what dial is used to determine index,how is the procedural done with dial i have to buy a dial how is it used?for as numbers goes.

If you are buying a dial indicator for this job, the 1 inch models are easier to get set up in the limited space.

Maybe you have this sorted out as well Hunt, but I’ll throw it out there anyhow.

I bought a brand new McCleod clutch and a Hays SFI flywheel for my car. All “neutral” balanced from the manufacturers.

I took it all to my machine shop to have it checked and we found that the flywheel was slightly off (needed touched with a 1/2” drill bit to bring it to neutral) and the pressure plate was way off (needed an ingot welded to it to bring it to neutral).

It cost me about 100 bucks to balance the two.

I’m glad I took them in as opposed to trusting that they would be ok and having a drivetrain vibration.
