I love this website. After reading new posts today I thought it would be great to have a monthly tech/mystery challenge and see who could diagnose the problem and explain it. Maybe they could get a free gold membership for a year or a gift of some sort from the person posting the challenge. Just a thought. Thanks for all you do,
Mike

Don’t we already do that with tech questions?

for me the reward is just being able to answer the persons problem....

munger77, here's a puzzler for you that happened to me.
1969 Dodge. 318. All factory stock.
Put gas in it, drove to work. On the way home engine started to sputter and run real rough. Pulled into the driveway and the engine dies. It will turn over and occassionally start and run real rough and then die.
It took me all weekend to figure it out.
What's your diagnosis?

My technically challenging question is this... I have to have unlock a device using six numbers, five are numbers from 1 to 69 for the last one number from 1 to 26. The locking numbers are randomly drawn weekly.... the problem is I need next week’s numbers...

Gas with water in it, or the pickup sock in the tank.

33 Imp, those were my first thoughts. I drained the tank and added fresh gas. Didn't fix it. By the way, I had replaced the gas tank about a year before this happened.

Coil goes south when it gets hot?

Cranky, good guess. Coil checked out OK. I bought another one and tried it. Didn't fix it.

Was it a guess? That happens quite often. What's your ignition system?

Didn't mean to be insulting. Once the car died in my driveway it didn't leave until I figured it out. I spent two days jumping around like a monkey wondering what the hell happened.
Factory stock '69 318 (hint).

Didn't take it as an insult.....was it carb related or ignition? Had a 66 318 Belvedere that would die when leaving from a stop sign or a light from time to time and then wouldn't restart. Turns out is was a weak carb pump squirter but I still find it odd that it wouldn't start back up regardless.

Carter BBD is, and was, good. Not fuel related.
This was a one time only occurrence.
And, yes, this is all in good fun. Just something that happened to me.
I know you can solve this. Think! It's so simple.
Ha, ha.
Had you been there you probably would have saved me a lot of grief.

coronet68mx, no, not fuel related. Went through that until I found that the gas tank was full of rust. Thanks. Try again.
