thinking about adding one to my car,i was wondering what you members thought on that. thanks
 
Can’t hurt if your headed to the track. I think you need one with slicks under something like 12.99. Not positive on the ET.
 
I have been putting them on all my cars for awhile now. Just an added insurance. I just get the cheep ones from Jegs and then modify them to fit the car.
 
This is the kind that bolts to the floor on my 63.The box said Year One on it. Came with a package deal I bought about 10 years ago.Fit real nice.On my 65 I have the one that bolts to the tranny cross member. No holes drilled in the floor. That I like.Sorry I don't have a photo of it.

Last week I fabbed one for my 65 build. I used sections of 5" schedule 40 steel pipe and 1/4" x 2" flat stock. I'm planning to weld 3" angle iron to the edge of the drive shaft tunnel where it meets the flat part of the floorpan. Then bolt loop to the new mounts.

Has to be within 6” of front joint
 
After so much HP and torque it's a good thing to do. I'm at about 425 and do more cruising versus hard hole shots. I've had them and do see the upside, they do work!!
 
Years ago I threw my rear u-joint while going down a quarter mile track drag race. Wish I had one then!

A driveshaft loop is for the front u-joint, they don't care about the rear one. If the rear breaks, the shaft usually just slides out, no harm,no foul. If the front breaks, they don't want the shaft to drop to the ground and pole-vault the car. That's why it has to be near the front u-joint.

You're absolutely right. If I remember correctly, about 8 inches from the front.
 
These are great if you don't want/can't fabricate your own. I have a GV OD unit so I am on my own in this situation.

Yep, don't know how much you can adjust the store bought ones. I guess your overdrive unit really shortens the driveshaft. It might be far enough back to use the frame on both sides with a bar and a loop in the middle.

I had a GV also, bought one and just reworked it to fit my situation.
 
I have a front one that was sliced and diced to eliminate weight. When I get a chance a chain or strap will be used in the rear to keep the shaft from hitting the ground. My floor is already beat up from that broken joint years back!

They’re cheap insurance. I’ve snapped a u joint at speed before w/o one and since I’ve always used one. They don’t cost much, easy to install and keep you from doing a header.... I bought mine from Mancinis
