Factory manual steering with Chrysler power steering set up added. Firm Feel Stage 1 put in later. Wet everywhere. Been in for about 20 years and lots of miles. Wiped it clean and put dye in it to narrow leak. Maybe an opportunity to go to Stage 2. Lousy picture. Drives perfect and is quiet. Only symptom is the fluid leak.

Sector seal leak common leak. If looking to stop leak or slow down use this stuff excellent results. NAPA Has

Seal-Lube is another excellent product. Napa carries it also. I have seen it stop a leak that was actually running out in a stream!

An old mechanic's trick is to use 50/50 brake fluid and power steering fluid.

Mine leaks so bad I can't drive the car without puking fluid all over my driveway and the road. I've been putting aluminum pans under the K-Frame and a small bread pan wedged inside the K-Frame to catch fluid. I have to empty the small bread pan every time I run the engine to exercise it. I haven't driven my car in 5 weeks because of it.. I bought the car knowing it had this problem. The previous owner ran DEXRON ATF fluid in it, because PS fluid was too expensive to keep putting in it when it leaks so profusely.

I will be replacing this old leaky POS with a Borgeson gearbox, pump and lines. The list of pluses with that system was too great for me to bother rebuilding this old, big heavy gearbox.

This photo below shows the soaked pitman steering arm. The bread pan, under the front of the gearbox, almost totally fills up only after starting and running the engine till warm once! My K-Frame also gets covered with the stuff. It is a mess!

Go Stage III, you won't regret it.

Please explain.

In the meantime remove the power steering belt so you can do your engine exercises without leaking.

Coronet R/T had manual steering. Added PS later.

Please explain.

I’ll remove the belt this weekend. That should be ok if I’m just moving the car straight backward and forward. If I were to attempt to drive and turn the wheels without the pump running could it damage the steering box? I assume if I did try to turn the wheels with no pump, it would be even harder to turn the steering wheel than with a manual gearbox?

If you can turn that wheel non p/s then u are the man. Armold would have a tough time. But no damage will occur

OK, the box is leaking not the tank. Who is the Firm Feel Vendor here. Really think I should go to Stage 3 from 1? I’m ready to make the purchase. Will worry about the core later. Car drives fine, just wet.

Dennis, no vendors for FF. Just call them and get the show started.

x2 on AT-205 Re-seal. This stuff actually worked for sealing up the leaky sector shaft seal on my Charger.

I too have a very minor leak (more like seepage) in my PS box. I have always heard that these stop leak "repair in a bottle" fixes just swell the rubber seals, stopping the leak, but in the long run, will deteriorate the rubber. I'd love to try it, but I'm very leery.

Ordered today. Firm Feel has a 10 week lead time, Dick says they are swamped with orders. Need the diameter of the Sector Shaft to complete order. 1 1/4 or 1 1/8. Thanks ckessel.
Stage 2.

Your stock box will be 1.125, wasn’t till 73’ iirc, the sector shaft went to 1.250. So get the 1.125 (1 1/8).
