This fall I did a number on my 440. Tires spinning really fast and catching traction resulted in two motor mount ears breaking off the block on the driver side and mount ripped right off the k frame on passenger side. I had a good welder fix the block but this weekend when I bolted the engine support back on the lower ear on the driver side developed a hair line crack (picture attached below). Curious on some other people’s thoughts on running as is with a good torque strap. The optimistic side of me says you still have two good tabs and with additional support it will be alright.

That thing sounds like a beast! You might be better off fabricating an engine plate.

it works pretty good it’s a solid 500 horsepower motor nothing to crazy. I’m not dead set against a motor plate but would like to avoid it.

You might be able to stitch lock it just posted a thread on it.

Just throwing an idea out there. In addition to the mount, I have an 1/8" strap from the WP to the K member. Seems to works pretty well. PS may be an issue I suspect.

A motor plate will move everything forward, so keep that in mind if space is limited.

Torque strap would be the go to for if I was in your predicament.

  • Went 8.90s in a duster with rubber mounts and 50 cents worth of chain on the left side. Strap it or chain, should be fine

Anyone else have any thoughts? The bottom tab was welded on by a good welder but hairline cracked along some of the weld when I installed the engine support it still felt solid. Will a torque strap provide enough support for it to survive? Car is not going to see any drag strip action just some hard street use.

Torque strap won't keep the motor from moving. My Satellite had a Mancini strap, noticed in a pic how the flat bottom of the oil pan, was very different from the angle of the car. pulled the motor & found the 2 piece stock motor mount. Without sound iron mounts IMHO a motor plate is the solution.

I should have noted I was (that’s why the tabs on the block failed) and am still running solid mounts.

I ran solid mounts on my '65 Coronet 600=/- HP bracket car for couple thousand runs. Never broke the tabs. With broken tabs, a motor plate is easy & does work. Just say'in. I really think I should plate my Satellite. I switched to solid Moroso mounts but...

Not dead set against the motor plate but it’ll be a last resort. A resort that will probably only come if I hit failure again. Not afraid of the work to do a motor plate just feels a touch overkill and don’t like the look of them personally. The tabs have been fixed about as solid as they could be. Anyone end up in this situation and have any longevity come from it without a motor plate?

Yes it does. It has to.

My mistake, the water pumo/alt pulley. No big deal. Broken iron, maybe a big deal.
