516 Exhaust valves

Hey guys I recently picked up a 1966 383 but a couple exhaust valves were rusted off at the seat. I was looking for a couple of exhaust valve to replace these. I guess buying new would be the best way to go. But if someone here had a few that were not in bad shape and reasonably priced I would consider used. As for the heads other than the 2 valves that are roached they look to be in usable shape.
 
Those heads benefit A LOT from enlarging the exhaust valves to 1.74 From the stock 1.60
You may want to consider that
 
I was reading on that.. And the 2 seats may be water/rust damaged and may have to be enlarged just to clean them up. So that may be something I HAVE to do just to be able to re-use them.

If the heads are off, there is rust, and you have the budget you will be very happy to have enlarged the exhaust valves. The heads are somewhat anemic otherwise

Roger that.. I appreciate the info. I have been doing some reading and seems with the 1.74 exhaust valves they flow pretty close to 906 heads.. Not exactly but closer than with the 1.60
 
do a little shopping and buy a whole set of stainless valves, do it once , do it right.
 
Well I hit a snag.. The block is cracked from freeze plug to freeze plug.. So I have a new brick. I can't catch a break with this stuff lol.
 
I'm going to move this to the tech section.....but yeah on the 1.74 valves. Also, if you do nothing else, do a valve pocket port job (pocket job). It will really help out the flow as all of these older heads had sorry back cuts from the factory.

Drag, I hope you didn't pay a arm & a leg for it? Good Luck finding a new motor.
 
I really cant tell But since it goes from plug to plug Im pretty sure its a crack. Here are some pictures of the line in question. I first thought it was a heavy scratch.

Cast iron welding would do it and being in water jacket not alot of stress there
 
I have never had luck with a wire welder....I don't recommend even trying it...a block is 2 big. Stick welding can be done and not a big deal, or tig possibly. We get our rods from Muggy welding. Doing short stich's cold and letting it cool should work. Works great on heads and manifolds...I think a block could be done. Haven't tried a block yet with muggy's rods...but I would do my research on their site.

Cleaned it up with brake clean yesterday. Here is the result.

Check the cylinders closely too.....
 
I need to send the block to be cleaned and checked to make sure its atleast good to use. I need to check the bore size. I do believe its standard. Has a Maltese cross so I assume .001 undersized bearings. The cam might be no good but I would do new anyhow.
