I had my car painted and just finished the rims in gold. Was testing them out between Reno, NV and Wadsworth, NV on I80. Beautiful sunny day. THEN IT HAPPENED. Just like out of the movies, a wind storm about 100 feet in the air, 100 MPH wind, brown dirt, rocks, tumble weeds as big as a small car and a brown out. New paint is no match for that. Car looks great but a close up shows the small rock chips in the paint. Welcome to Nevada.

Man that's a Bi*ch.
Sounds like my kinda luck.
Sorry

Yesterday, today, and the day before were NOT the days to have a old car out. Don't you know there's a bunch of pebbles and fine gravel on the roads? I'm guessin this happened on Wed. when you say wind? I see you're in the same Zip as I.

Now I know where you live!! :D But is that really in the 'real world' lol

Now I don't feel so bad after having to take out a perfectly clean 24 year old vehicle out in crappy weather today and got it dirty as hello. At least it didn't hurt the paint.....I think. Sorry to hear about the rotten luck.

Lived in Fernley NV and this is the time of year for wind and those pesky Dirt Devils. Live in S New Mexico now and there are warning signs about brown out sand storms. In the High Desert it is the norm this time of year.

No it happened last year. Just wanted to tell the story.

My worst nightmare is cancer. Maybe the loss of my Wife. Paint getting damaged ranks down near an itchy foot compared to those things.
Worse/worst.

I was leaving Fernley when this happened. It was last year, not today. Beautiful day it was. I will not repaint since my car is a daily driver. thanks for the comment.

I saw it coming but what can you do. Car still looks great, and since it is a daily driver, NO repaint at this time. Thanks for the comment.

That was my comment. Comprehensive part of your policy would probably have covered the damage

Think this is why most of my cars for the last 20 years have been sort of beaters. Not beat up but ones that don't matter if the paint gets messed up and one that doesn't get locked in grocery store parking lots. They do get 'disabled' so no one can just drive off with it but someone can still hook up a wrecker at any time. Thinking about retiring my 95 Dakota as it's getting kinda bad with leaks etc but man, I'm gonna miss that beater lol. It's loud, ugly and kinda mean looking with the over sized wheels/tires and no one wants to get too close to it. Maybe they think the old peeling paint is going to jump off onto theirs.... :D

Cool deal that the insurance is going to cover your mishap.

To be honest new shiny paint is not my preference for any car I drive. When my 68 Charger (the one in my avatar) finally gets on the road it will wear the gold paint that's currently on it. I was really close to stripping it down to bare metal to paint it flat black but decided against it. I want to get it together and drive it. Painting it will set me way back in cost and time.

Can't remember the last time I waxed a car that was owned by me.

I know right where your talking about. My oldest son lives in Reno and I usually visit him during HAN.
If you drive them they are going to get chips especially out West here in the deserts. I know I'll probably cry when the perfect black paint on my Dart's hood gets it's first chip. But like the Dog says there are much worse things in life. After all theses are just cars.

Come on, people....The right word is W O R S T.
Worst nightmare, not worse.
