As the title says, that is the car I have. The car is pretty much a survivor, meaning not restored, not modified that I can tell, but as things wore out they were replaced over the years. I am trying to replace the aftermarket parts that are not correct. The exhaust is a replacement system and I want to replace it with a correct system for the car. My 1972 Plymouth Service Manual does not have a diagram of the 440 for the B-Body but it does have a diagram for the 400. Are these the same? If not, if someone has a diagram I would appreciate it. The 400 diagram shows no X or H pipe and no resonators. Thanks!

Check out accurate exhaust. The go-to for original exhaust for mopars. They show a different ststem for 440s and 400 in your chassis. 440 has a taller deck height thana 400, so different headpipes. Tailpipes and mufflers might be the same.
Edit. Accurateltd.com has drawings and pictures of their systems on their website.
Cbs71440et should be your part # for complete system.

Thank you both for the quick reply. Yes, I checked out their site. Excellent and clear. Why do they show the "sound package" with the resonators as an option for the Road Runner GTX 440? But all of them came with the resonators? Thanks again.

The ’72 N97 noise reduction package for the 440HP was optional on all federal production, was required only for California production.

Thanks for the sound track. That car looks exactly like mine including the tires, except I do not have the resonators. (N97 is not on my broadcast sheet, nor on the window sticker.) The N42 Chrome tips are on my car and look original to the car. I have those same cutouts in the rear valence as the car in the video. It is listed on the window sticker but not on the broadcast sheet. So no N42. I found an option listing for the '72 Satellite and it said that the tips were standard with the 440-4 engine. So would that negate the need for it to be on the broadcast sheet since it was part of the engine specifications?

The tips were only to be standard on the 440-6bbl offering that didn’t pan out, optional on the other motors noted. See the remarks on the chart above for N42. Optional on the 440-4bbl, except N/A for California production. Would indicate turn downs on the required resonators for 440-4bbl California production.

Same cut-out valence for tips, with and without resonators.

There were two different tips one for the 440-6 and another for 2 door models only. Not all 440-4's had tips.

Two different tips, one for resonators and another for without resonators, tail pipes only. The 440-6 would have had resonators and the specific resonator tips for them, except California. As well the optional resonator/tips for the other motors listed as resonator optional for federal production.

Thanks for all of the help. Now I understand the exhaust system well enough to order a new set from Accurate Exhaust.

I’m running this system on both of my '72s now. Overall Accurate does a good job of reproducing as original. One issue I ran into is the clocking of the clamp location for the resonator hanger and related resonator seam. For ’72, the hanger clamp bolt should not be hanging down as some of their web site photos show.

I had to request they be made as originally designed, they did, no resistance. There is a good picture of the hanger in the ’72 service manual. The first purchase, I picked-up myself and had them re-do them while I waited. Second purchase, I sent them pics and a description request.
