I picked up a CA/AZ 1966 Coronet post car for my next project. This one will be MAXIMVS III. MI and MII are a 1963 Savoy and 1964 Savoy respectively. I sold those (though I might be getting the 63 savoy back some day) years ago and now I'm getting back in the game.

The 66 will be NSS legal and I plan on driving to the meets in this one and hopefully driving back. I pulled the front and rear glass and there is no rust in the channels. The undercarriage including the torsion bar support and frame rails are also rust free - big time dirty though from sitting in the desert for decades.

The initial plan is:
  • I'm going with 1966 WW-1 (white) and a black interior. It thought it was originally a turquoise (KK-1) but it looks like a white car (that's what I really wanted anyway) after we pulled the front and rear glass out - it was painted turquoise sometime later.
  • I decided on a 383 based 431 stroker as I have a pristine standard bore 69 383 block that I just stripped, economical and won't break the bank. In the meantime I'll pick up 426 hemi parts as I run across them for the final build.
  • No hood scoop will be installed on this one - well maybe a 66 SS WO hemi scoop.
  • I'm using the 8-3/4 that's in it until I can swing a Dana 60.
  • It had power brakes but I'm ditching that for 4 wheel discs and will replace the manual steering box with power steering unit.
  • I'm also installing A/C and replacing the 22" core support with a 26" core support.
  • It will be getting a Turbo Action 727 with a 9" converter and low band apply.
  • Line-lock
  • No cage or roll bar - that POS in it is going to the scrap heap.
  • No graphics

nice find keep us updated with pics please.

Started the clean up and inspection today. Here's a link to some before pics: http://photos.emeryengineering.com/FullScreenSlideShow.aspx?gallery=4876927&mt=Photo

Turns out the car has front disc brakes and some weird leaf spring perches/shock mounts I have not seen before - looks to be home made. It also has a K member that I've not been able to identify, if you can take a look and let me know it would be appreciated.

If you look at the pics in the link above, you'll see that they cut out the core support for a larger radiator. I'll be replacing the core support with a 26" unit. I will probably replace the floor with a non-hacked up piece - I don't know if I can live with the stick welded floor that's in there. On the other hand the trunk floor is pristine and will require no work - that's different. It also appears that this was an A/C car - can anyone confirm by the firewall and dash vents?

Instrument panel is a total loss - it's been modified by hacking the radio slot and adding vents. Got the bumpers off and will be stripping the wiring harnesses tomorrow.

Looking at the sway bar it has the very early k-member, must have an early build date. Somebody reinforced the motor mount perches. That hood prop rod almost looks factory!

Yeah that hood prop rod tickled me as well. The guy took out the hood springs - why I don't know, I guess he wanted to try out that hood prop rod.

Newest episode in the goober (goober = the guy who butchered this car) files. I was busy stripping the car (wiring, anything I can remove before it goes to the body shop) and decided to remove the gas pedal and linkage. A few minute job right? Well goober decided to stick weld the mounting bracket to the firewall - I'll get a few pics tomorrow. I'm done for tonight.

At this point I think I'm replacing the floors and part of the firewall - the cowl is nice.

Watching this thread - my buddy is also building '66 post car.

Not sure if you are aware that there is no replacement front or rear glass for our sedans.

It is a doner car only availability.
