I just met a widow a few blocks from my house. She had the garage door open and I seen the back of this ‘66 Charger & had to stop. Short story of it is the Charger was her late husband’s who bought it as a project car and she had t gotten around to selling, remembers it once running before he passed but not really much other history. It’s a ‘66 383, 4bbl, 4speed. No air, no power anything. Body flat surfaces are pretty rusty. Body’s vertical portions are pretty free of rust/dents. Underside, door jambs, trunk, floors, frame, wheel wells are all free of rust. Interior seats need reupholstered & lud Ed snap needs carpet, tires, front windshield. But it’s all there and a complete car. The looming question: How much $ should I fairly offer the widow? Is it worth bringing back or parting it out? I haven’t had opportunity to try to start the motor yet. Sand and treat rust and clear coat it for a survivor maybe? Any thoughtful advise is appreciated!! I’ve included pics & a snapshot of decoded fender tag info too.

Looks like it's got the low-perf exhaust manifolds. The VIN will tell if it's a 4 barrel car or a 2 barrel car. 66s just don't command high dollars, especially in that condition. The 2 grand estimate given above is all I'd pay for it with the hopes I could get it running to flip and make a few bucks.

Id ask her if she knew what her husband paid and if I wanted it Id offer her that. If it was to much money id explain that and make her a fair offer.
I would see if the motor turned over but id never put gasoline in the tank under any circumstances or make a attempt to start it while it was in her garage especially if its attached to her home

Service manual only lists F but that is G. Best Guess is a 4 barrel. note guess.

If I were going to try to start it I would try to run the oil the oil pump to lube bearings etc.
Also would disconnect the fuel line to tank and use fresh fuel from a container to the fuel pump.
Don’t know how good the trim is, but that car is worth more than 2000.00 in parts. My opinion.

I like it. I bet you would be safe at 4000.. you always got to look at what your going to have to put into it. To what its worth in the end.

How long sitting? As above, smell the fuel first.

parts are hard to get, wouldnt start the engine I would prime it first.Good luck

My question is do you actually want the car as a project to move forward with, or are you just wanting to do a little and flip it? In a keeper, I see 4-6K, mainly because you want it. If you have no real interest in the car get it as cheap as you can. The only problem I see is that you want to be fair with a neighbor. I guess I'm saying that it's worth more to someone that wants the car. At 4-6K, I see no meat on the bone to make money. Just look it over good so that you don't make a costly mistake. Also remember the price is always less not running. I would just hook up a battery, pull out a easy to remove plug and see if it turns and still makes compression.

What part would you have to see? I’m going back Saturday morning with a battery & gas & see if I can get the motor to pop.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT START THAT CAR with her around.. Make the deal then bring it home and thats where you work on it. My offer would be.. Well, it needs a bunch of work and we don't even know if it runs. So here is 3000 bucks I'll take it as is.

That is a nice find!! Looks complete and unmessed with. 4 speed car, big block. I would enjoy working on that. I think $3k to $4k is fair in that condition.

mainly all the rust prone areas such as the floors, trunk pan, rockers, basically everything underneath . that's mainly where you run into trouble if it's ugly.
if that's rust around the rear window , those channels are going to a problem. these guys are throwing out 5k or more , but they haven't seen it outside in the light or crawled under it.
