Retiring after 45 years

3 cheers for you and retirement!

Now you can look forward to a new week; 6 Saturdays and a Sunday.

Congrats and all the best!! I retired 8 years ago and don’t miss all the stress and politics of big company work. Corporate America can have itself. Wrench, travel, enjoy. Life is too short

Good for you, Bob.... and congrats.

I retired last July and .... life is good. I thought I would spend all my time in the shop but I'm having so much fun doing random stuff that I have yet to start in on any major projects.

Congrats, Bob. That sort of thing is to be respected and honored!
Is the company doing anything for you on your last day?

My dad retired early, took the early out when offered. When his health went to ****, literally overnight, was
when he stopped doing anything that resembled work, though.
Biggest piece of advice he ever gave me was never to stop. Slow down, sure, take it easier, ok - but I still
remember the look on his face when he said it: "Don't....you....ever.....stop."
He was going through chemo when he said it to me and he reiterated such things when my own health went
sideways, always a version of "keep plugging away" or "get up soon as you can" when I was in hospital again.
See...
He knew a man truly has to have purpose in life. It's in our DNA.... once that usefulness, that drive, is gone,
other things can sneak in and sometimes that ain't good. Idle hands, all that jazz I suppose...

I don't reckon I'll ever have to worry about retirement or "stopping". With my medical bills, I'll be working
two years after they've put me in the ground. :)
  1. The company had a catered luncheon with about 125 friends, family and coworkers. Received a monetary gift from the president of the company, a nice watch with the company logo and a nice diecast Caterpillar D11T tractor mounted on a presentation piece. It was a great day.

You must be a man of the highest integrity, not to mention loyalty. Looking for something to do? I find there are always leaves to rake.

Bob,
Congratulations on a remarkable achievement. I am sure that your employer hated to see you go, but after 45 years; it is time to take some days for yourself and the family.

I have been retired for a little over four years from corporate America and have not missed one day of it. I have found that there is still not enough hours in the day.

Take care and best wishes for the good years ahead,
Richard

Congratulations!

I retired a little over a year ago. If it weren’t for moving out of Illinois and going to Missouri, I would have went back to work. I have plenty to keep me busy, but I miss the challenge of the programming that I was doing. Have things to do on the new house to make it home and a Dodge begging for attention. Just takes some getting used to...

Enjoy your retirement!

Welcome to the club. It is a great life. Like was already stated, stay busy. Nap when you want, just get back up and finish what you started, every day. Life is good.

Congratulations. I have only had 2 jobs. My first job lasted 11 years starting at 14 (under the table ). Then moved to my current job due to insurance and benefits. Been here 26 years now next month (Feb). That's 37 years with no end in sight. These damn Mopars are going to keep me working until the day I die...
