Help!! What this Charger worth?

There’s rust holes on trunk lid, passenger door and top of rear quarter panel. The metal around the rear glass is rusty real bad to the point I think it would take a donor car cut out of that and weld onto this car. That’s not easy to find or cheap to install.

It’d weird how the rust is basically only on the flat surfaces and not on the vertical. The wheel wells, door skins, quarter panels, etc have nothing but the flats do. Must’ve had something dropping on it for a long time. Bird poop or leaves maybe.‍♂️

You won't really know how much work is needed around the rear glass, until you get the glass out ,and blast the area. I just finished doing the same area on my 70 Charger, and I just fabricated the pieces to do the repairs.

It will take more time and money to repair a rusty car than it is worth. That looks like a rusty car. Already stated, parts for that year are very hard to find. We already see lots of flat panel rust that requires cutting out. If floor pans and structure are rusted, it's a parts car.

It is a $35000 car fully restored. It is a $70000 project to have it restored. Up to you.

That car is not that rusty, as far as those cars go. I see some rear window area work, and replacing a trunklid, if we parted out every Mopar that needed that type of work, there would be almost none left.

My silly opinion - it's worth 2500.-, tops; and 1000 to 2000 is fair, considering the condition it's in. The market for these cars is getting slowly smaller. The metal work it needs - a buyer would need to be handy, dedicated, and willing to do work themselves, or have a friend with a brake and a shrinker/stretcher. If the electroluminescent power pack is dead, there's $150-200 there. 66-67 Chargers have limited parts available, as others have said.

The plus is, it's a 4 speed, big block. In general, 4 speeds are only 15% or so of all sales for a given car line. If I didn't have a Mopar, I'd jump on it quick. But I'm a big fan of 1st gen Chargers. If you decide you'll love it forever, go for it.

From the web..

I’m in agreement with you. Based upon the condition, I think it’ll take me about 4-5 grand to get it where it’s driveable but no bodywork or interior work being done to it. So I’d have 8 into it. I don’t know how much it cost to have the seats recovered and new carpet. The body I’m actually thinking I’ll just sand the rust smooth, patch the fe’s small holes and then clear the whole thing so you’d see the imperfections. Your thoughts?

That is what I would do, just make it a driver and have fun with it. It could be a great car and nobody is saying fully restore it, If you fix it up here/there and are into it for under 10k at the end of the day, its a running /driving safe 4 speed car I think your doing pretty good. You never know, may pull 7500 as is on ebay right now. As a running car I could see 12500 or 13500 range.

estimate just went down due to rust through

$2500-$3000

I've seen two 383 auto cars with AC and PW in the 22K asking range needing nothing and with shiny paint and nice interiors....in the last 2 years.

2809 66 383 4 barrel 4 speeds made.
Total 66 Chargers made 37,344.
If it costs 100.00-150.00 to fix the usual problems with a power pack, I have a friend that would love to have the work.
All big blocks in 66 had log manifolds.
What are people asking for trunk lids, bumpers, grills, c surrounds, complete 383’s, 4 speeds, gauges if working, trim.
I was happy to get a lower grill moulding and hood moulding for 300.00 US.
I know of people who would scoop that up for as little as possible, get into Canada and make a pile of money. They would stress the amount of money needed to fix it, and they really wanted it. If a deal was made, they would most likely already have a buyer. Good thing some of them aren’t on this site.
I am glad that there are people like yourself who have integrity. Good luck.

Great info to know. Less than 3000 4speed cars made in ‘66 isn’t much at all. I’ve gotta try to seal the deal on this one I think.

Anyone have contact info for a good shipper? This charger is in Miami and I’ve been down here for about a year on a construction project but will be done end of February. So if I buy the charger, I’ll have to get the car shipped back home to St. Louis. I’ve heard prices for shipping a car go from $700-$1300. ‍♂️

Don't think you could go too wrong no matter what. 1st gens are like some of the hardest to find good parts for. There are some guys here that would give a left nut for some of the parts off that car....just sayin
I'd say over 2 grand but no more than 4 provided all the parts are more or less there.

Just realized that the car is in Ohio . In the early 90’s I got a 67 from Illinois. Floors were shot, but rest was pretty good. Trunk lid is nice, quarters are quite decent. Fenders and doors are also useable.
I think that were ever there is high humidity, everything rusts just sitting. Way back when, my Uncle lived on Vancouver Island. He swore up and down that if you stood in his garage you could hear the rust eating away at the exhaust on his 56 Coupe de Ville.

I thought the OP had been in the widow's garage?

how come no one knows where the car is?

This area scares me. Does she still have the window trim? That is going to be some intensive fab work around the window. Plus whatever rusted through that back glass has surely made it into the trunk area.
