paint over rust indeed- so no real benefit for me..rust is my biggest enemy.hiding it does not work.

It encapsulates it, so no oxygen gets through...

Just so you guys know, Tig welding is a great way to make some pretty serious fillets
that are strong and pretty but If you think you're going to weld quarters and patches
on cars, forget it! Way too much heat is generated in just making the "puddle" so you
can add the filler rod. A Mig is the way to go. Nice and cold with good penetration. You
will hold down distorting the sheet metal and keep everything cool by moving around
while welding. And use 0.020 wire!

ZYZZYX.... THANKS for all your help....much appreciated
If anyone cannot get the video to play (no red arrow).
I had the same problem. I found if I put my mouse over the video and right clicked I would get a list of items to choose. Click on reload, and the red arrow will appear and you can play the video.

To tell you the truth after replacing my entire floor and both quarters of I had it to do over...just because of the many different contours I would go with panel bond.

i think im using .30 wire.... what should my gas be set at?... im at 15 for the gas and i applied 2 light coats of primer....no clue how to load a picture
Let me start by saying that i just bought my first welder and i have no experience except the practicing that ive been doing with it. My GTX needed a new floor so i removed the rotted floor and replaced with a new AMD full floor.... so far so good, i prepped the new floor by drilling holes and sanding away the black coating and applied SEM weld thru primer on clean steel surfaces, so im all ready to weld up the spot weld holes..... so heres my question... when i practice welding on clean scrap metal my plug welds are pretty good... i then added weld thru primer and my plug welds are the ugliest welds with splatter and burn thru. Why is this happening, all things equal except useing the primer. I dont want to try welding my new floor till i figure this out. My welder is a Millermatic 140 with gas. Thanks for a great site....
metal welding wants to be clean, I don't trust weld through primer it defeats both the primer that is burned off and the clean metal to be welded.
I have a 45 year old Miller 35, it always works well. I'm not familiar with the welder you have but I use only .030 and.035. get some mig dip and dip the stinger in that every could of welds, it keeps the tip clean.
what are you using for gas?you can use C0-2 ,much cheaper and weld is the same. setting line pressure for C0-2 is 6 -8 pounds
many opt for Argon which is not needed for mig welding unless you are welding aluminum, some have good luck welding alum with mig but not me. my problem welding now is my vision is gone wanky and I usually wind up welding my shoe to the concrete or something.
