I don't know Dan but I do know that he was a Green Beret prior to going to flight school and the guys I talked to who served with him said he was always a bit high strung but a solid operator. So I will give him that.

As far as the show and his shop, I think he does try but he isn't any different than any other repair shop in the country. I would like to believe that his drama is created for the camera (much like GYC but on a somewhat less nauseating level); Dan's "shtick" seems to be his "unwavering commitment to quality" and his outrage at about everything. He is portrayed at the "expert" (although he doesn't say that unlike GYC, but it is clear that they promote him as the final word on everything and all things).

I can fully see that working for him would suck, very demanding and condescending
So if he was an ex Green Beret, then its no wonder his standards are so high. I like that.
I have met and worked with a lot of people with a similar personality to Dan's. I don't think he is an asshole at all, he just expects everybody to work at the highest level. People like that are easy to work with if you maintain your own standards, which should not be difficult if you are a reputable tradesman that has passion about what you do. I read that when they advertise for a job, they have 20 applicants, 4 try out and 1 makes it. They have a try before you buy policy, so its easy to weed out the crap.
He is the business owner and it is his reputation on the line. It stands to reason that he should always have the final word on everything.
Working for him would be demanding and as mentioned, people leave all the time. I am sure if they got on his wave length, it would be a rewarding place to work.

Gearz is good, Stacey David loves what he does, but one or two new shows then six months of re running reruns.
Perhaps, but that show is all about pushing new products, too - and he's quite the huckster.
I understand the need for sponsorship and all that, but they lay it on pretty thick.

Oh....and MULLET! :)

I can watch them all but my wife HATES Wheeler Dealers. Gets violent and fights me for the remote. That being said, if you can't appreciate manufactured drama and poor product placement, you could watch Lifetime or O.

If you have ever built a car before, you have to realize that it is just work. Nothing very interesting about tail lights that don't work after reassembly or chasing an oil leak on a new build.

Think Christy Lee, Heather Storm, Adrianna, Alyssa Worman, and any other chick that will help you install an exhaust while drinking a beer with you in your mancave and chill the **** out.

I am also impressed with the man. Above being grateful for his service to the country, I like how the show's emphasis -
whether just implied or actually demonstrated - is to deliver what the customer ordered to the best of the shops'
ability and within the budget agreement with them.

I saw something recently where Dan was quoted as saying he was terminating the taping of new shows now;
the schedule of producing the show has been a distraction to his shops' operation, to say the least - and I think
I remember him also saying the money he was getting from the TV contract just wasn't worth the grief.

Although some of the on-camera drama is no doubt over-acted, I have no doubt what he fusses over in the show
on each project is probably what he actually DID raise hell about in "real life" on each car.
The other thing I appreciate on that particular show is that they make a point of telling you how long each car
has been at the shop - and it's NEVER a week, like Overhaulin' claims.
I can recall seeing some cars being at his shop over a year, which is much more realistic.

Has anybody mentioned "My Classic Car" yet?
I've read stories purporting that mustache guy is a real a-hole in real life?

My response to this .... if his standards were "so high" the cars wouldn't be delivered to the customers looking like they do. He charges a premium and delivers mediocre at best. I've met him in person, he's an asshole for sure !

Well no one has to like him (Dan) and I have never met him personally although we know some of the same people and I have no doubt people I have worked with say the same about me being an A hole; in fact I had many teammates say exactly that. I am not defending Dan, but as a Special Forces brother I respect him.

That dude makes me want to shoot him in the face... can't stand him, same feeling I get with "chasing classic cars"; both those idiots feel deeply entitled and impressed with themselves.

Bitchin Rides, Iron Resurrection, Full Custom Garage (amazing results using junk), Garage Squad (getting stalled projects up and running). The rest have to much drama for me.

I cannot believe you have not mentioned my Tio's show south of the border!
MEXICANICOS

I wish you could understand him. He is a mess just like his cars. He was just arrested driving a stolen vehicle. Was on Discovery for a hot minute and then pulled to Latin Discovery.

You can add closed captions and translate to English.

Why did you bring this on, !!!
I was hoping nobody north of the border watch that crappy show

look am Mexican as many of you know, proud of my beautiful country, my language, our costumes, our food, proud of my fellow working mexican across the border, but that particular show is a shame for us as Mexicans , why? The quality of the restorations is poor, you can see the cars poorly painted, terrible upholstery, the mechanical parts unpainted or the engines almost untouched, they mostly build cars for funerals and limousines, that's their main business, not restorations, so their area of expertise is modified cars, you can barely see rust repair, using tons of bondo, even the paint guns are antiquated and dirty, the shop is dirty, the designer really sucks... terrible show really,

Mexico has a large amount of restored classic cars and as a fan of the classic cars I've seen excellent restoration by the owners not shops, although thers is this shop on the border I forgot the name that do excellent jobs believe is in Juarez.
MEXICANICOS must be the worst of all of them:(

Too many cut/bag and ugly modern 22’s. Ugly theme. Keep Chip outta my driveway.
So many commercials and reruns on HRTV I’ve given up.

I just lost interest in those shows. Too much drama.

Anyone ever watch Velocity Dispatch? Interesting show, watched a guy run a lawnmower engine on energy drink, grain alcohol, diesel fuel and octane booster.
