What do you think a fast street car is? I think anything running 10's or faster. There are more 8 second streeters now than ever!
I like going to the track because it's the only place I can get traction, wring it out and get a real time slip. I am not a competitor more of a tuna fish or exhibitionst! We will see how this season goes, I'm legal to 8.50 and should see that this season! I get a kick out of these dedicated BIG $$$$$$$ racecars that have a hard time going that fast:rofl::rofl:
So who else is fast,,,,,,,and how fast and can still drive on the highway??:steering::popcorn:

Coming out of Brooklyn

Going into the Bronx

Annual Easter Parade

20 mile drive to a car show in Brooklyn

depends on how "fast" is determined. To me "fast" is determined by what you are running for what you have. For instance, to me a factory stock slant six with 2.76 gears running a 16.99 is faster than a full blown Hemi with 4.30's running 12.50, for what they are.
  • My favorite analysis is this: If I told you I know somebody that can bench press a 100 lbs, you'd say "big deal". If I told you it was a 3 yr old girl, you'd say "WHOA!!".

Well, most of my "fast street car" experience on the public streets is from the 70s and 80s. "What is a fast street car?" can be compartmentalized too, although I get the question.
For example, back around 1980-82, cruising the local route around the lake in New Orleans, my buddy's 383 4 speed 70 Roadrunner was a consistent street race winner, but it was only a low to mid 13 second car, on the street. Fast can be comparative, depending on what is "driving around" and who you take up the challenge with.
To answer your question with my opinion, I'd say anything in the 10s or faster is a fast street car. The Dodge Demon Challenger and other "similar" new cars have taken "fast street car" to a WHOLE new level!

You guys running 10's on the street think my 68 Charger with a 6.1 is a dog but high 12's on street tires is plenty fast for me.

high 12's on street tires is plenty fast for me.
Look, with traction, I'm there too, high 12s, and I have a lot of fun w/the loud pedal.
At Cruisin the Coast last October, a guy in a 70s era Vette wanted to play, and a 1st/2nd gear sprint was all it took to know who was going to come out on top, beep-beep...
Still, the performance of "new cars" is amazing. That alone has raised the bar of what a fast street car is. Sedans are running 13s, and I'm not talking about sedans that use performance as their selling point.

Hemi, your funny with that car and the air box on top what is fast well I think it's you. I know if you get pulled over for speeding I bet you hand them your pilot license and tell the cop you were only running at mach1.

Heck not many of us even have 8 second race cars. I know I dont. My observation. Go to your local track for a weekly race. See how many cars that are still basicly a original style body are in the 8's. I'm talking close to stock; floor pans, front suspension, body inner structure intact, interior that isnt all tin. I know at our tracks that out of roughly 30-50 cars on a weekly basis you might see 2-3 cars that fit this description. Yes there are 8 second street cars. How many? I would bet next to none on motor alone with the above restrictions. We have 3 street cars in my family that are hot rods. In street trim with sticky tires; 12.50, 11.00, 9.50. All plated and legal. The lightest one with driver is 3775. Its also the slowest

The never ending question, 'How fast is fast enough'?
How's about 8.20 at 180mph on street tyres with pump gas!
Now I'm talking the fastest street car in Europe, in the last Century...
No hemi just a 400 block with Indy heads and 200 shot of nitrous.
Less than 1/2 mile to a gallon lol...

Now that's funny!

Not fast but quick enough. 10.50 was its best usually 10.60s to 10.70s. .030 over 400 ci. With 10.5 to 1 compression

Not sure it's fast but it has a full interior and is all steel. Even has battery up front! I have no problems getting in and driving it 45 miles to a neighboring town to their cruise night. Pump gas, quiet mufflers and drives nice.

I used to think 10's in a street car was fast but now I see all kinds of guys with stout turbo'd late model stuff that easily runs 9's.

I've been 10.40 @ 130 and 6.48 @ 105. See no need to go faster than 10's with the safety requirements at that level.

I remember when a 13 second street car was considered fast.....

Well we should have a mid to low 10 sec 1/4 mile brkt car this year with our '69RR, full street trim inc. bench seat, but with 720ftlbs the motor makes@4400 I don't think it would be a fast street car, won't ever be able to get that much torque to the ground even with d/radials it will have for the road.

If you are looking for "8.00" then my "16.00" is only half fast.
