So I am looking at certain items on the car I just purchased. It has the DUI tri-power ignition and inferno oil filled coil. It was my understanding that with this setup you should bypass the ballast resistor for the system to work as intended. On mine the ballast is not bypassed.

I can't find any install documentation from dui so I thought I would ask you guys.

I don't know that system but if needed, is just enough just add a jumper wire between ballast terminals and won't need to hack up the wiring. With this mod, the original coil wire can become on your switched source to the ign system.

If want a cleaner view of the ballast jumper, you can remove the resistor on back of the ceramic piece and install the jumper wire in place. Depending on your skills to make it.

Here how to make it

You can also just cut wires at ballast and splice them together if you don't care about hack up the wiring.

Need to note NOT ALL THE SYSTEMS require to jump out the ballast. the MSD control box uses the stock coil signal just to turn on the control box, while is sourced from another wire, so on these the ballast bypass is not required and can be keept in place and the same existant coil wire can be used still with ballast in place. The ballast by ballast bypass is only required on RTR distributors and any other box where the 12 volts source is running from ign switch without another source like batt ( like MSD control box does )

This is the dui trip power system. I looked on their website and could not find install directions. I jumped the ballast and it seems to be running better.

I am having idle issues after I drive for awhile. Not sure if it is ignition or carburetor related. I had the issue before I bypassed the ballast as well.

Car idles great cold, but at a stoplight it will idle for about 30 seconds and then slowly die.

This is the setup in the car

And 1407 edelbrock carb

Did you work thru the issues with tripower? How did it come out? Considering this system for 440. Thanks, Ben

If it’s a 6 volt coil you keep the ballast resistor. If it’s a 12 volt coil, you bypass the resistor.
