Who has a fast street car?

I'm more than happy with my A100 running a 13.0 sec 1/4
KIWI!! I'm going to seem "disconnected" with saying this, but I didn't know you had a "Little Red Wagon" type ride!:drinks:
I checked your photo garage, but I didn't see any pix of it.
Tell me more and a couple of pix please!
Mid engine like the wheelstander? Stroker small block I assume?

What a sleeper! Stock 360 block and cast iron crank, in what looks like a 4 door? and yet you are running 9.5s at 144!!?? You must have quite a bit of nitrous or some other power adder Doug, and hearing about a stock 360 block and CAST IRON crank handling what must be 6XX HP? makes me wonder why I and so many others are constantly worried about breaking stuff at that speed!

Close enough.

A FAST street car should be a legal car (IMHO) and have mufflers, plates, tags etc, also be capable of driving to the shops to get groceries, and drive past cops without attracting unnecessary attention.

Al...your '63 qualifies handsomely.

To me, a car that has to be tailored to an event, run on race gas or better, cannot take passengers, cannot get to the shops to get groceries, and has to be continually torn down and rebuilt IS NOT A STREET car. :D
I thought about this again last night, and I should have added this.....

Must be able to be used as a daily driver in rush hour traffic....on a regular basis.

I've heard of this car before, think its weighs around the 3500lbs mark in which case were talking 850hp@142mph

Fast is always subjective .
Is it NA or power adder ?
11s is a quick car na .
10s is flat fast na .
Power adder , well thats kind of the easy way out
To be a street car is being capable of more than a 20 minute run in traffic . Its got to be capable of peak hour traffic . Can it be a daily driver ?Can you run for 6 or 700 miles on the freeway , and back ?
Like i said subjective

Fast to me is good acceleration and top end. With really deep gears you might have a decent quarter mile but it's no good if you have top speed of only 120 mph. Really fast cars should be able to run the quarter in say less than 12 seconds but also have a top speed of 170 mph+. It's hard with a 3 speed auto or even a 4 speed manual to achieve both without huge power and torque.

pump gas 511 ran a best of 10.40@130 last fall. should be a little better this spring. 8" 5100, 727, 4.10 with 28" DR tire 3380#.

Well, HEMI-ITIS asked a subjective question, so that means no real "right" answer, but I disagree with the "170+" qualification of @66 Sat but in another way I agree.
To me "quick" and "fast" are different things. Quick is measured from A--->B and Fast is top speed, so in that way I agree.
OTOH, I would not say 170+ is mandatory as minimum speed to be "fast". There are some "quick" cars I would not want to do 170 in, as one example...

The term "street" can be subjective too. I guess you could simply agree to it being street legal.

For me it comes down to whether I want to be in that "street" car for an hour or two to be called a street car. And even that changes for me over time.

The only reason I chose 170+ is nowadays even hot hatchbacks (Golf GTIs etc) or some family SUV's can pull over 150. Until about 15 years ago 150 mph/13 sec qtr was always my standard for a pretty fast car, but in recent years it's gone nuts. Saying that, the way speed limits are nowadays I'd prefer a slower car that feels fast rather than a fast car that feels slow. I love driving my Plymouth, goes well enough and sounds awesome. Feels like I'm bombing along even though I'm only doing about 70 mph....
