so I’ve been tossing around the idea to rebuild my 318 around the hot rod 400 horsepower build, replace with a 6.1 Hemi or go built EFI 440. After tossing some things around I think the 440 will be the winner.

Doing so, besides the BB trans, BB radiator, ignition.... what else will I need for he swap?

I appreciate the information guys.

Alt,Ps,A/C,& throttle cable/Kick down brackets. Motor mounts, Exhaust manifolds or headers. Non rubber isolated drive shaft.

probably want to upgrade the torsion bars too.

Yeah 440's are awesome! I got a 74 charger it had a 318 now it has a 400. Hind site is 20/20 I would have put a 360 in it. I used the Schumaker conversation mounts and man everything hits. I have power steering on it so the only headers that I found says that they will fit are the Patriot long tube headers, they hit the passenger inner fender. So you need to trim the passenger side inner fender. The oil pump also hits the motor mount I would use a remote oil pump. With a 440 I'm sure the fitment would be alot less. My charger did originally come with a 727 so I didn't really problem with that part and I did upgrade to a stronger rear end and I upgraded my drive shaft.

Depending on your manifold choices for the 440 hood clearance will also be something to consider

That's right with my 400 I have the weiand action plus with a 1 inch carb spacer and a stock single snorkel 4 barrel air cleaner and I cannot close the hood.

right now I have the 2.73 rear gears I think.

1974chargers why would you go with the 360? With only a few changes this would be a bolt in.... low rev vs high. Low end vs high end tq?

After considering all the changes, upgrading to a 5.7/6.1 will require all of the same, and I could lightly use my 727, drive line and rear ended.......

I’ve been looking at a gear vendor 6 spd ... and upgrading to EFI.... in the future.

Hmmmm,

The spool type motor mounts are a little hard to find to upgrade from small block to big block. The newer shumacher mounts are not in production anytime soon so you’ll need to purchase NOS mounts.

Why not a blueprint engines 408 stroker?
It has everything even a warranty.

The reason that I said that I would have went with a 360 is because it is cheaper to build and in reality the 360 would make just as much power as my 400 and it wouldn't be such a pain making everything fit correctly

I decided to go with the “Performance Injection Engine” 360 stroker 408 build with Holley TBI. Appreciate all your input, this just seemed to be the most hassle free option....
