I am trying to figure out if this 1967 GTX has the correct engine in it?I think it does but I am trying to make sure! Here is all the information I have. The fender tag and the numbers on block.I am thinking about buying this car and trying to make sure everything is correct! It even still has the warranty card in the pocket at the radiator support!

There are no serial numbers on the engine block for a 67 440. Engine stamp is an important indicator. C=year 67 HP high performance.

the best you can do is date code it, but that is still not absolute. there were not exact corresponding numbers to tie the VIN to the block in 1967.

That's the beautiful thing about pre- 1968.5 HP cars!

From my understanding the build date on car from fender tag is 315.Would this be March 15th?The codes on the block looks like 9 and 6.Would this not be Sept. 6,1966???Then the "C" makes it a 1967??I am confused here!

Yes, a casting date on the block of 9-6-66 would be in a 67 vehicle. Blocks usually had a long lead time vs the man date of the car itself.

But why is there a "C" on the bock for 1967?Should it not be "B" for 1966 since it was built then?

It went into a 67 so it'll have a C on it. Besides, by September, the 67's are being built and are already hitting the dealerships.

Numbers look good to me, from what you posted. A C 440 with a build date of 9-6 and the cars manufacture date of 3-15 all fall in line. The cast date on the block should fall before the build date of the engine.

Ok,thanks guys for all the help.I guess there is no way to check transmission?I was curious about certicard to see if it matched up to fender tag and it does. How rare is it to still have the certicard in the pocket at radiator support?

Get the numbers off the pan rail on the driver's side and post them and someone can tell you the year of the transmission. I'm not sure of or if a date code will be there, it's been a while. As for the certi-card, that is pretty rare. To me it indicates that the car has been kept well over the years and probably not many owners.

Isn't there an engine build date on front pad? My 66 hemi blocks have them.

Yes that was indicated on the OP's first post and was 9-6. The transmission date code is what he is interested in now.

That is the cast date of block. One my Hemi cast 1-19-66 engine assembled on around 2-15-66 car build 3-08-66. Other Hemi cast 1-21-66 assembled 3-24-66. Maybe wedges didn't have engine assembly dates? I've never dealt with wedges so I could be wrong.

Engine assembly date is on the pad C440 HP 9-6 assembly date, he didn't provide the cast date. He did include the fender tag and the car was supposed to be assembled on 3-15. Somehow I'm not being clear.

I might have seen Pops pic and confused it as op's?
Pops information gives all you need to know, I almost got confused on the picture too. Then I realized it was actually in his post. If it had been the OP's post then it would have all been wrong. Engine built before the cast date. :)

My GTX is about 90% Number matching. Down to the Carter carburetor w tags. Intake manifold exhaust manifold starter alternator wiper motor. Air cleaner ,dual-point distributor. I have re-popped hose clamps heater hoses etc.

I’m old-school I’m still running points...
