What is need for a rear defrost setup on our first gen chargers ? I have the vent but nothing else. My car didn't come with that option either.....want to know if the setup is even feasible....any input would help.

Thanks in advance
Kyle

There are many opinions on this but i don't believe that a rear defrost was ever and option on our first gens. That was the point of the 2 vents under the trunk lid / flow thru ventilation on the cars.

Actually a fellow in Saskatchewan has or had a 66 Charger with a factory rear defogger, I even saw the part number. It might have been dealer installed. That was about 1997.
A few of us Charger owners made a road trip to the TDC Meet in Rapid City in 2001. A few people were amazed to see it. I lost the pictures.

Where are the exit vents? I've tried this concept on a '69 Coronet but it's not working very well.

If I remember correctly there should be a slot similar to a defrost vent in the back package tray. This would be in the metal. Then if it was dealer installed, they would cut the fiberboard install the grille hook up the motor to the vent pipe. They recirculated the air from the trunk . Makes me think that there would also be an air intake via holes in the package tray similar to speaker holes.
My parents 61 Pioneer was set up that way.
I do have a setup from a 67 VIP but would have to look. Can`t use it in my Charger.

Just got the official word, my friend had a new 68 Coronet R/T. Had a defogger. Slot near the center of package tray side to side. Blower mounted to the deck, intake air came through the holes where a speaker would have been.

When you open the trunk, there are two rubber flaps designed for fresh air movement

I personally doubt the availability of a rear window defrost package for our cars
While you never say never with Chrysler, I have never seen one in a Charger
And my love hate relationship with them goes back to my mother bringing a brand new one home in 67 when I was 8 years old.

This picture is not mine but shows the flaps. they are available as repops if you need them

I sure missed the point. I sent useless information, it was for 68.
The fellow with the 66 Charger is probably in AZ. or Palm Springs for the winter. My other friend will take pictures of the defogger when he gets back in the spring.

Thank you. Very interesting.

I have a '73 with rear defrost. It has a two speed switch for the blower motor and the rest as described above.

Rear defrost has been a debate for years, we know there is a printed knock out molded into the rear panel for what would be, a defrost, but no part number for such item. And have never seen one, or anyone else in the first gen forums, in over 30 years of first gen ownership.

Actually there are part numbers for the system listed under section 1-47-0 of the mopar parts catalog.
Yup, the system is shown in the electrical diagrams, and the pre-printed knock outs are there for it, but like you, I have never seen one myself with my own two eyes. If there's any out there, they're definitely rare.

Actually that refers to 2 door Belvedere & Coronet hardtop, not Charger.

My 67 Parts Catalog calls out "ALL" 2D, 2D HT, 4D for the Rear Defogger Package 1-47-1. The Name Plate for the switch (1-47-15) specifically calls out Charger, Barracuda, Valiant. Everything else is kind of generic.

Maybe we'll get lucky and (440 4 speed) will gets some pic's of his friends car in the Spring. I won't let him forget

It does not list 2 door fastback ... that would indicate Charger as it indicated Barracuda for A body.
