1967 GTX Numbers Matching?

Numbers look good to me, from what you posted. A C 440 with a build date of 9-6 and the cars manufacture date of 3-15 all fall in line. The cast date on the block should fall before the build date of the engine.
The thing that seems a little odd about this is the fact that the engine has an assembly date of 9-6 and a scheduled production date of 3-15. That fully assembled engine sitting for 6 months without being installed in a car is puzzling. My #'s matching 68 440 had an assembly date of 4-13-68 and a 4-23-68 SPD. 10 days later.

Yes,for some reason something just seems odd.I am no expert here though. Also here are some more photos and just wondering if the quarters in trunk and under the car should have all this under coating,The car was bought new in Ohio.

Looks pretty normal. Its had a repaint. A little to much paint in the trunk. Also the trunk catch on the body should not have paint it was zinc type plating on it. As far as the paint in the trunk is concerned, the trunk floor inner and outer wheel houses and up to the separation at the back seat was painted. There was no masking done so all other areas would just be overspray..

I’m not too sure about the spread of dates either, seems a big wide. But, it’s possible I guess. What’s the casting date on the block? Are you sure the stamped number up on the pad is 9 6? I can’t tell what the first number is from your picture.

Did you check the SO number on the tag and match it to the radiator support number? Should also be a number on the trunk lip and/or lower rear bumper valance. This will confirm your tag is legit. And, the broadcast sheet will link the VIN to SO number.

You also can research the VIN number to correlate production date.

If the car isn’t super expensive I wouldn’t over think this. If you like the car and the price is right go for it. It’s not like your ready to drop $75k+ on a #1 Hemi car. The swing on 67 GTX AT cars from original engine to not is minimal.

Private party or dealer?

Post some pics of the car and interior.

That looks like a nice honest example. Of course, an in person inspection is mandatory, but it looks worthy.

Show up with 25,000 and a trailer. and if it looks nice offer 24,000. Leave yourself a grand so if you really want it you can go to 25,000.
