Ok, steep/expensive learning curve. I have a 1967 Coronet with a 496 stroker in it, serpentine pulley system with reverse rotation water pump and a/c. I live in Fort Mohave AZ where we regularly see 120+ temps from June thru Aug and 100+ from middle of April to beginning of Oct and mid 80's from mid Feb till Nov. The car will be driven regularly and will definitely need a/c as well as need to keep temps in check. Here's the issue. From the front of the pulley on the water pump to the radiator is 2.5 inches without the electric fans. The electric fans add 4-1/2 inches to it so there is no way to run them. The shortest fan clutch, Hayden 2947, is 2.7 inches long so still wont fit and is normal rotation only. The factory radiator to front of pulley is only 3 inches, and that is with or without the serpentine system. My question, will running an 18 or 19" reverse rotation 7 blade direct drive fan hurt anything other than robbing a few horsepower? I have the factory shroud still and it has a 20.25" opening.

I have a more conventional 440 and the Griffin radiator I have doesn't allow use of
the "Jaguar fan clutch", either - so I run a 7 blade fan in a factory shroud with a spacer
to get it within about 3/4" of the radiator (half in, half out of the shroud).

Does it keep your temps in check? That is my goal, w/in 3/4" from fan. I guess I'll have a 3,000 cfm dual fan n shroud w electronic controller up for sale soon.

She runs dang near too cool in anything below 80F, even with a 180F thermostat.
Over that outside temp and she runs pretty darn normal temps, not even halfway on the factory gauge.
Sitting in traffic is the nemesis of 440's for cooling, of course. These things run HOT by nature. When I'm in that situation and outside temps are pushing 90F or more, I do pick up the idle RPM a bit and she cools back down a little, never more than 190F.

Thank you, now I need to find a high pitch 7 blade reverse rotation direct drive fan that is between 18-19 inches to fit in the factory 20.25 inch diameter opening fan shroud.
