Good Day All,

As the title says....for my 68 Charger RT

The kframe to Rad support bracket was missing from the car I purchased. I picked up the correct bracket and the proper fasteners.

When I went to install it...I see now why it was not installed. The bracket will not go up far enough...it hits the sway bar. The best way to explain it is that the "bump up" in the middle of the sway bar it not deep enough before the bracket hits it and will no go up to fit flush on the rad support.

Anyone run into this?

How can I tell if it is the correct sway bar? It looks to be the correct mounting brackets.

Is it possible that the end links that are installed are too long and the geometry is not correct...so the sway bay it no tilted level enough?

Any help or tips appreciated.

If the support bracket hits the sway bar then I'm pretty sure your sway bar's mounted upside down... the sway bar goes over the brace

. If it doesn't fit like that then its a good chance you have the wrong brace or wrong sway bar or both

Looking at your photo...the sway bar on the car is mounted in the correct orientation and in the same place on the kframe with the same brackets...but the “bump up” on the bar in the middle does not look as pronounced. Not as big.

Perhaps the sway bar is out of something else, I assume you have looked at pictures of other cars to see how they are configured?

I have. But some seem to be the same “bump up” at the top and they seem to fit. Will grab some pics in a bit.

Are there any part numbers on the bar or measurements to check to see if the sway bar I have is correct?

I've even seen some mounted upside down as well

So...comparing those 2 pics you provided....look at the difference in the “bump” in the middle of the sway bar. They are different. Yours is higher. Mine is like the second photo, less “bump”...but not upside down. Hence there is not enough room for the rad suppport bracket to go up flush.

That is why I am curious about application and part numbers.

The bar in post 7 appears to be a correct bar and brackets but is mounted upside down. The bar in post 3 is larger than the factory bar but is mounted correctly. My factory bar is like the one in post 7. I have aftermarket brackets holding it to the K frame but they mount the same. It doesn't interfere with the core support bracket. Close though. If nothing is obviously bent, I can't explain your problem but here is a pic of mine.

Sixpactogo...

thx for the reply. Yes...mine is like yours. Going to grab some pics in a bit to illustrate.

The bar pictured in post #3 is an aftermarket bar and mounting brackets.

here is a factory sway bar in the daylight. Then a straight edge with the curve height measured.

R413...

if that is factory...that’s my issue. I see in your photo there is 1 1/2 inch rise in the “bump”. See my photo. Red bar just for straight edge. It is only a 1 inch max.

Does the geometry look right on the end links. Looks to me as if there are “stretching” to reach the sway bar.

Yes the end links are angled forward and seems like they should be more straight up and down.

Is that an A-body sway bar on your car??

Measuring mine with a straight edge across front edge of the bar the bushing mount holes are 14.5” back and 44” across.

OK check the photos for explanation.

I agree, it's the wrong animal for you Charger.
The good news is that you have options.... stock or....

Thanks for the replies....Stock I think is the way I would like to go.

Is there part numbers on the the sway bar?

Does anyone have the measurements for the correct one so that I can compare to what I have? R413...I did see your measurements but I did not quite understand them. Not you...I am sure it's me!

Thanks all

Mac, I'll measure my swaybar when I get home. I know for sure my bar is a factory animal.
I'll get you overall width of the bar "eyes" and the length of the reach from the front of the bar.

Hey Mac I measured the sway bar off my 68. Center to center the eyes are 44 1/4” and 14 “ reach.

68Moparmaniac and R413....thx so much guys. I really appreciate the effort in getting me those pics.

The total size of the bar is pretty close with a quick measurement without a straight edge on it. I am going to really get the measurements exactly tonight. But...it is the rise in the front "bump" that is for the sure not correct. Mine only has 1 inch of rise. If you look at my picture above with the red straight edge bar your can see that it is not as a pronounced of a curve. Both of yours seems to show exactly 1 1/2 inch rise. Hence my issue and the bracket wont go up far enough. Way better finding out that than something was bent...which I suspected not.

Any ideas about part number location on these bars or not...or what my bar could be for?
