I dunno -that year could be a "73". There's a list on the 440 Source site that shows that as a '73 number.

Casting number ending in 8830 says it's a 75-78 and the botched casting date looks to be a block that was cast on the 23rd day of 78. Can't read the month but most likely was early in the year but the J on the pad says it's a 73 and I'm finding that the 8830 blocks were cast earlier than 75. And where was he taking it to get 50 bucks in scrap price?

I wishI am somewhat skeptical of moparts' chart. It looks like they have that block as 8330, and uh, 65 and 66 max wedges?
Understood I hope to make a nice motor out of it nothing crazy I can throw about 3k at it .The knowledgeable guys on here should chime in, would a '78 block have a "HP" stamping? Can't think of any real late HP offerings. $250 or so for all that seems good. The cost to do what you want with it is what you need to figure.
What do you guys feel it is worth it turns over without issues.

Is there a vin number on the pad above the oil pan? That would show the model year, assembly plant and sequence numbers.
The balancer and the J says early 73 to me. I'm thinking the cast date is 1-27-73 and the assembly date is Feb 22nd.
Nice score.
