My Back Yard this Morning

I spent over 4500.00 last spring to keep them out of my wife's garden. Not a fan.
Mike
We left everything beyond the sidewalks and driveway natural. The few decorative bushes that were planted inside the perimeter apparently they don't like. My wife is interested in nothing in the yard and her garden is at the grocery store. I don't push it, she isn't a car person, but doesn't interfere with my interest there, so life is good. A neighbor tried a garden a few years ago and I watched a deer just flat footed jump his 8 foot fence around that garden and enjoy herself.

A double perimeter fence less than 3 foot high
will keep all deer out. they don’t have depth
perception so they won’t attempt it because they don’t know how hard to jump. I keep them out of my deer plots using this method
never a single deer track in it and plot grows
to maturity before i open it up to them.

Heck, I get yelled at when shooting a Daisy BB gun at the squirrels on the bird feeder! The BIG stuff has to go to the range, bigger than .177" anyway.
Have shot 22's and other stuff out behind my place but looks like that has come to an end with a huge development going up back there.

I know someone that put up a fairly large chain link enclosure complete with a chain link top and when I asked how he kept the mocking birds out he just replied what mocking birds. Right after he said that, the sound of a .22 rang out just off in the woods and he started laughing. The mocking bird here just happens to be the state bird too.....and would like to strangle the moron that brought that into being.

Everyone complains about the deer, birds, coons etc, just remember who was here/there first !

I moved to a condo development a few months ago. It sit in the middle of the woods on about 50 acres, with a dry creek bed that run 5 miles to the river and looks like a park. My family has lived their 30 years, brother, brothers son, aunt and uncle, mom and dad and cousin. while some have passed away I can still see my father taking pictures and running to get them developed, years ago to show me all the deer. he put out salt blocks and built big gardens with plants and many small trees and bushes. It was all great till they ate EVERYTHING he had!!. soon it was those damn deer!! We live in the suburbs and hunting is not allowed. The deer know this and run in my yard up to my door and you can see nose prints on my front storm door. At night, any night you can see a buck, doe and small ones walking up the middle of the street. Last night two bucks were under the street light and you could see the steam coming from their noses as they were breathing as they watched me not more than 20 feet away. It's incredible to watch and they were 8 to 10 pointers. It's not fun anymore because they eat EVERYTHING in sight. You can drive by them, as slow as possible, as they drink water from puddles inches from the street. I live on the only lake in the place where they come for water and there can be as many as 10 to 12 always. They think they own the place and I have come to believe they do.

that’s our state bird as well

They are nice sounding but not when they are just outside your bedroom window at 3am lol

we have a herd that goes thru daily too

everyday (or almost) occurrence here

some really nice bucks of late

wait till one of them mocking birds builds a nest at your porch step in a shrub! they get mean and nasty when you walk by:lol:

my almost 100# Lab keeps them at bay

deer, they stay on the other side of the fence
a few times they do jump it to get the acorns
as soon as any kind of noise they hightail it to the back 40

the god damn Black & white Acorn Wood Peckers are the worst
they easily scare off too
they do love all the acorns too

just open the door & they fly off into the Ponderosa Pines

Just having a nest in a tree that's close to where ya need to walk is enough for dive bombing!! Had to start walking out to check the mail with a tennis racket before she decided to leave me alone. If UPS stopped to deliver a package, the walk from the shop to the front could be dangerous if not for being armed with that racket. The first couple of swipes was early but the third time she lost a feather and she got the hint but still carried it whenever walking down the drive lol

My son just told me last night he had to touch off a couple .44 mags to scare off a coyote last night.
They have chickens and goats. Not the coyote but my kids.
The deer are thick there in N AL.

These are my neighbors , and they are standing on my shooting berm . Been thinking of returning to USPSA competition , but my auto-addiction might be getting in the way . I only have 3 houses within 2 miles of mine
