Does anyone know if the trim that goes down the side and across the bottom of the dash is chrome or stainless? Trying to determine whether it can be polished or if it has to be replated. Thanks.

I tried to polish mine and it didn't come out looking like the rest of the SS on my car. Also, I believe the interior A pillar trim is chrome, and then painted. Not much of a help, huh? Sorry.

No worries, thanks for the reply. Trying to help another member with their project. Just realized I could see if it was magnetic and it is which rules out most stainless.

Also good to know your results from polishing.

On my car, the A-pillar trim is just chrome, not painted.

Well My 66 has this trim and surface rust. I would say its chrome plated metal. pretty sure its just plain old metal.

That is correct for the Satellite. Belvedere I & II were painted from the grove in toward the windshield. I'm not sure on the Dodge B body which shares the same trim.

I painted these as the only chrome that cleaned up good was the edges. It's also on a Coronet 500. Probably incorrect, but looks great.

Thanks to all for the replies. Anyone have an idea of what a used set of this trim is worth? The chrome on the spare set I have looks a little splotchy and there is a bit of rust in a few spots along the back and upper/lower edges, but itis otherwise free of pits, dents, etc. Probably ok for a driver, but likely needs rechromed for a nice show car. Haven't decided if I want to part with these, but another member may be interested in buying and I haven't found anything similar to set a price. Thanks in advance ...

Member (KK?) used glass stove top cleaner with nice results.

That trim is chrome plated. The long straight piece is different from Dodge to Plymouth, it is notched for the radio and ash tray. Both pieces that end at the column opening are different from 66 to 67.

The A pillar trim is partially painted on 66. It is full chrome on 67.

The straight piece across the top of the windshield is also painted on a 66 2 door hardtops to match the A pillars. This 2 door trim piece is shaped different that a 4 door piece, even though painted the same dull suede interior paint.

R413 - These are the A Pillar parts of which you speak for '66. Mine are going out to be replated. Would you know the proper paint used for these parts and the upper windshield interior trim?

If there is small rust spots on the lower dash chrome, they can be taken out. It is time consuming.
I started with 1000 wet/dry sandpaper. Then decided if I needed to drop down or not. Some of the stainless is magnetic, and some is not.
Most of the trim I have done for the Charger is sanded with 2000 grit, some 2500 grit, then buffed.
If you want pictures, I will have get help to load and send. I didn’t take before pictures.
The 66 lower chrome is longer than 67, both brands. So a 66 can be cut shorter to work in a 67.

so is it for sale?

Yes, I will sell these parts. Both of my cars have nicer trim so it's unlikely I will need them. Might be difficult to ship due to the size.

Just to contribute-

I believe for Dodge, Chargers and 500's have chrome A pillar trim.
440 and lower are partially painted and if mem serves WE clas (and RE Belv I for that matter) no chrome at all.

More to add

All this trim mentioned above is chrome plated. Steel.
The long trim across the Bottom of the dash only comes on 2 door hardtops. Dodge & Ply/66-67 different. Post 10

The partially painted A Pillar trim (post 10) is only on 1966 2 door hardtop cars. 1967 was all chrome.

if the car is a sedan (2dr/4dr/wagon) then the A pillar trim is all painted.

sedan trim is taller than 2 dr hardtop trim=won’t interchange. Pillars and top of windshield.

If you strip the paint off the 66 A pillar mouldings, they become 67 mouldings, usually here, you won’t find rust behind the painted pillar.
