It seems i have an unwanted tennant living under my deck. And he's not strictly nocturnal. Yesterday morning i noticed a small wet spot under my work van. I laid down on the drive , at the front of the van to see what was leaking. No sooner than i laid down, a skunk ran under the back of the van, headed right toward me ! I let out a holler, and jumped up quick ! My phone & keys went flyin . i ran for the house, and watched as he went towards my neighbors house. This morning i opened my back door to leave, and a skunk was sitting on my door matt, looking up at me. I shut the door & watched through the window as he crawled under my deck. I suspect he's living under the deck. I thought about using a trap, but with my luck i'd get sprayed or catch the neighbors cat. I read moth balls will work. I plan to try that first.
 
Stick a radio under there and leave it on
For a few days
They dont like noise and will move on..
 
Rags dipped in ammonia and then placed under the deck usually works.
 
If you can put a radio under there, they don't like noise and won't stay. The last thing you want is it making a home under there or something chasing it and it spraying.
 
I've also heard pepper spray or ammonia works. Never had to deal with them so not sure either one really works. Good luck.
Kind of funny story about skunks. Couple of years ago, the wife and I were out walking and as we approached some woods, a skunk walked out about 20 yards away. The wife yelled and jumped at the skunk. As I'm recovery from a near heart attack and luckily didn't pee myself, I asked her what was she doing? She said trying to scare the skunk away. Thankfully, we were not sprayed and quickly exited area.
 
If you are planning to rid of the skunks, it’s best to do it before breeding season starts in the Spring. Otherwise, you will have to live with a family of skunks for the season. Skunks are nocturnal animals and are very sensitive to light and sound. Flood the area you think they are living in with Solar lights.
 
We caught 3 of them under my shed. Took them to the wetlands park a couple of miles from the house. Lots of kids playing over there and thought about putting a sign that said 'free kittens'. I got scolded so we let them go free.....:)
 
My dogs got sprayed early one morning before work. I didn't think I got it. I thought the smell was just lingering in my nose from washing the dogs. The secretary at work told me she could smell it. I had to wait until the Walmart across the street opened to buy another shirt and some Axe body wipes. Let's just say I sat by myself at the meeting that morning.

I don't think this one read the rule book. Both times i've seen it has been in broad daylight.
 
Early spring? They maybe hungry. They like to dig for grubs and thing and if the ground is froze the pickings are slim. Usually won't bother you unless you are a threat.
 
I will let you barrow my Lab he seems to like to piss them off. Twice he has come in after being sprayed. He got to live outside for a while both times.

Maybe, but the light at night will make them look for a quieter place.
 
Peppermint, Spearmint extract. Mix it up in a spray bottle and spray it around and under your deck.

Get rid of any cat food, dog food outside. Your neighbor might have some out too for the strays.
