Putting together a 451 for street strip duty
going for 550 ish hp
451 built short block venolia pistons, b motor rods, 11:1 compression give or take
planning for a solid flat tappet cam in the 230 240 @50 range
operating range 2500 6500 rpm

Should I buy the tf 240 or 270 heads?

You could make 550 with a crappy set of 906 heads. You sure don't need 270s.

240s will get you to your power goals and beyond.
I've compared the 2 on this forum too many times.
Get the 240s, especially in that RPM range and at that displacement.
B-block? Definitely the 240s.

I make near 550 with stealth heads on a pump gas mild solid flat tappet cam 451 short block. So 240’s will be plenty, and will IMO be a better choice for street duty.

Totally agree , I got 612hp and 625 tq with 240's and a solid cam not too much bigger than what you have, It's still very streetable with 12" vaccum

I'm building a 512 low deck motor that will see use on both street and strip and going with Trick Flow 270's. Hoping to find a solid lifter 640 lift camshaft with moderate low duration. 4.10 rear gear, 1050 Holley Dominator carb. If you want to stay in the HP range you mentioned 240's will work great for you, If you see yourself wanting more HP down the road spend a extra $300 and get the 270's.

Better find a low-deck max-port intake before you commit to the 270s. Indy only, as far as I know.
The Track Heat intake has enough material to port match to the Trick Flow PowerPort 270 heads, but there is not enough material to port match it to a Max Wedge cylinder head. The 270 intake port is a little smaller then the Max Wedge port.

@JackpotJim, you read my mind! I was wondering what manifold you were going to use! Track heat is from trick flow, and is a low deck? I didn't know they were making a low deck intake yet.

Don’t know if you’ll get to 550 with a cam in the 230 range. My 451 is pretty much what you’re describing. I figure it checks in somewhere in the 540 hp range. It’s 10.6:1 and runs a 252* solid flat tappet, Modern CNC’d stealth heads that flow 320 at peak lift, and a port matched RPM intake with a big 4150 on it. I may be leaving a little on the table with lack of tuning expertise, but I think I’ve got it fairly close to it’s sweet spot.
I don’t think you need the 270’s, although you’d raise your cieling with them. I think they may hurt your street-ability though. But I think you need more cam than you’ve listed. If you did go with 270s and more camshaft, you’d exceed your 550 goal.

Have a talk with Dwayne porter or Todd at Marsh performance to put together the right package of heads, cam, lifters, headgasket and rockers!

I ran the 1.6 HS rockers on my 240s with a 238/242@ .050 cam with a oem style 6bbl & intake. made 590@5800 would probably have made more with a single 4 & matching intake. 440 cu in.
