Hey all, still plugging away on my grandfathers mopars that I picked up last year.

The 71 Superbee is officially a driver, I’ve poured a lot of money and sweat equity into her, and it’s finally paying off. One of the biggest mods I’ve made for reliability is converting the car to a MSD ready to run distributor system and I’ve converter to a high amp one wire alternator.

My questions now revolve around bypassing the factory ammeter. I no longer have a wire going from the alternator to the voltage regulator (it’s gone) and then to the ammeter, so how do I go about a bypass? Would I just drill out the firewall connectors and then run wires from the starter solenoid to the factory ammeter wires? Do I even need to do this now that all current being driven to the ammeter is routed from alternator, to battery, to ammeter?

looking forward to hearing from you guys!

On my car, the original black charge wire went from the alternator, through the bulkhead connector, into the dash harness where power was sent off to various things via the factory splice, then to one side of the ammeter.
Another red wire went from the other side of the ammeter, back through the bulkhead connector, to the starter relay.

I ran a new charge wire with fuseable link.
I removed the original black charge wire from the alternator.

Now, I took the original red wire from the starter relay, pulled it out of the bulkhead connector, and plugged it back into the bulkhead connector where the original black charge wire was connected.

That powered the splice. I removed that wire from the ammeter, black wire, and terminated it.

I removed the original red wire going from the ammeter to the bulkhead connector.
