I haven't been out to Barona 1/8 mile since last spring when I broke a 440Source roller rocker. Used that as an excuse to take off the stock iron 452s and replace with Edelbrcok 84cc E Streets and old school Isky ductile iron rockers.

So the very first pass it did a 7.67 @ 89.845 mph with a 1.66 60 foot - besting my previous best of 7.82 @ 87 mph. Then when I let my foot off the gas the engine died. I lost all electrical power. Coasted off the track and halfway down the return road, then had to get towed by a golf cart back to the pits, then had to call AAA for a 50 mile tow home. Couldn't find anything obvious to fix so had no choice.

Looking at it in the garage I noticed that the stud coming out of the alternator for the battery connection is loose in the housing so I'm wondering if that is the culprit.

congrats  you should do a vid for us. Hope its an easy fix.

Should be a ceramic or hard plastic insulator around that alternator stud. if the stud is loose or the insulator is gone the power wire can ground out on the alt housing and you probably blew a fusible link or fuse. I'd look at fusible link first.

Used to run the old style Isky rockers and they did well. Last engine was with a roller cam and saw 7300 however a buddy was running a set with a 600 lift solid flat tappen and they wouldn't stay adjusted.

my engine currently has original max wedge adj rockers on it,,.650 roller cam,,ran it all last car show season and never adjusted them but,,,u reminded me of what i still need to do now! changed plugs yesterday and went up 1 heat range number to hopefully get them to burn cleaner.

Mine stayed adjusted with the .660 roller that was in my motor....surprised me for sure!

Yes!!! This is exactly what happened. Thank you. The hard plastic insulator between the power wire and alternator housing crumbled and now the fusible link is fried. Does anyone know if there is a source for this insulator? Also looking for a good place to get the fusible link. I saw online that classicindustries has the fusible link for $29.95 but wondering if this is something Napa would have for cheaper.

I always get my fusible links from Mark at MAD Electrical. He is quite reasonable on pricing. Big downfall however is that he likes to talk. And I mean a lot. It's actually hard to get off the phone with him and he seems to be getting worse the older he gets.

Finding a ceramic insulator for your Mopar alternator's power stud might be as easy as asking at your local parts store that sells rebuilt starters and alts. They maybe can nab one off of one of their cores.

congrats on the new low

Thanks, I think it still has a little more in it too because it was sputtering at the top of second gear on my one run. Looking back I think it might have been from the alternator being messed up.
