Pete Rose - Hall Of Fame or not

Pete pissed a lot of people off regularly for decades and I think that is where the real rub is but I always thought they should let him in. I mean Fu$k.

He was betting against the team he was managing for monetary purposes. So it is game stuff.

I do agree he was great and as a baseball fan these greats don't come around very often. Too bad he took advantage of his position. MLB banned him for life but I expect he will be honored after his death.
That's not correct. He bet on his team to WIN.

Whether you like him or not Rose is the greatest player in my life time. He made all star at seven different positions, mvp numerous times, all time hits leader, etc.
The hall of fame should be about
the way you played the game, it's not a popularity contest. No one comes even close to matching his stats.
Rose is just like shoeless Joe Jackson, banned for doing his job
Baseball today is a piece of ****.
I never watch it because it's all about money. They claim to have all these high standards but in reality they have none.

Put one of the best to ever play the game in, it's been long enough. How long do you punish someone who screwed up. After all he didn't kill someone, or rape someone. That was OJ, who by the way is in the HOF

Baseball been berry berry good to me

I’m to young to have watched him play, though I hear he was good. I probably wouldn’t even know who he was if it hadn’t been for this ongoing topic since I was a kid.
I think he’s more famous for not being in the hall of fame. Just did a search and I don’t see a thread dedicated to Babe Ruth.

I watched an interview one time , and He brought up that he was being denied the ability to make a living as a Hall of Famer. He wasn't sorry and didn't seem concerned with the honor of it just the money. After that I said I hope he never gets in.

Hall of fame is for famous people, duh!

I don't believe he was betting against his own team.

I've never seen or read that anywhere.

"Champion" Astros cheated.

"Champion" Patriots cheated twice if not three times.

Any of those guys banned from HOF consideration?

So are you saying the standards should be lowered because of the repeated cheating?

The Patriots accusations are nothing more than the NFL and Godell trying to level the playing field, much like they do in Nascar!

My 2 cents is that baseball has always said you can do pretty much anything but bet on baseball. Going back to the Black Sox. So knowing that if, you gamble on baseball your out. I don't care what lame excuse you have.

No, not at all. He never cheated. He bet on his team, The Reds, to win. He was a hard *** competitor and never liked to lose and would not throw a game. What got him was lying about it. He bet on damn near everything but never cheated.

I was referring to YY1's, post above. I never said Pete Rose cheated.

But he did break established rules and honorable principle, then expects the ruling agency to overlook what he did.
First lying about it and then claiming that what everyone else did was worse. Sounds like a child's response to me.
Now we have people clamoring to change or lower the standard. He will never be a "good guy" in my eyes.
Hopefully that clarifies my view.
