Decided to replace the cracked steering wheel on my 67 coronet 500. The steering wheel nut was cross threaded. Was able to remove the nut, but the threads came off as well.
Now the nut wont thread on. I think I have a complete column from a 66 coronet, are the shafts the same?

I think that 67 was the year they introduced the collapsible column but, that may not change the shaft length. Can you swap the whole assy? Tear them both apart and check it out.

Well don't feel bad unless you were the guy who installed it cross threaded.
It was another "numbnut".

The shaft is fine thread 1/2'' 20 like a lug nut. You can try to tap it standard thread 1/2''. Not saying it will work, just saying try.

You mean run a die over the shaft? correct?
Yes but you whatever you do, you don't want to ruin the good steering wheel...

Yep , tap(Die) the shaft. Die is the correct terminology.

Thanks everyone, I will try and rethread the shaft with a die. Got nothing to lose.

I believe 67 is wider where it comes through the dash also, I have a blue 67 column

Is your column a manual steering, floor shift column. If how much do you want for it if all else fails.

Use a thread file on it first
Clean it up as much as you can with the file
Then finish with the Die
Doing it this way will increase the chances of getting the die on the threads straight and inline

If you disassemble the column the shaft could be turned down to the next smallest thread size and rethreaded (SAE or metric).
