So I was going to start checking the fits on my surrounds, mount the headlight buckets and ran into an issue. Some of the straps that hold the surrounds to the fender (3x) have rusted off and my FSM does not show in detail the hardware used . What goes in the 3 holes in the fender and what do the fasteners look like in the surround?
I can make new straps, just need to know what to put in them.
Thanks

I have the same issue. Was hoping someone will post with much nicer examples, but here is what I have:

After posting this I realized that you are asking about the fastener at the end - sorry I have no idea.

No I appreciate it, at least I can see what the stud looks like. Now my question is are those only for positioning? What holds/groups those on the fender.
I thought about getting some new style body panel push pins that are used on most of the plastic crap covers on modern cars. I sure don't want it tearing up my new paint because its loose.

You plug welded what exactly???
The end that attaches to the fender- clean it up really well... clean where it attaches to the fender and mig weld the bracket to the fender. When you fill the hole in the bracket with weld, that's called a plug weld.

Ya I know what a plug weld is, just trying to visualize what you did. If you welded the brackets to the fenderhow did you get the three tabs under the lip of the surround? Does your surround hold tight to the fender? Still would like to know what went in the holes of the fender itself???

Yes, the surrounds sit flush. The brackets are in the same place they were... it's just that 2 of them are plug welded on instead of the fasteners that broke.

Here is an original fastener.

So is that a rivet? Thhe ends of my tabs are rusted off on the surround and the fenderjust has the holes where the straps lined up. The straps are affixed to the surrounds so Im having a hard time understanding how they attach. I assumed that the straps had the post or stud ( which tucked under the lip of the surround) and were pushed into the holes on the fender. The FSM doesnt give much detail on it.
Thanks again!

I would make new brackets, tack them to the fenders and test fit the surrounds... adjust as needed... weld them up... grind as needed... done deal

Hey Bill, what wheel and tire combo do you have on that Coronet?
275 60 15 on 15x7 rears and 225 60 15 on 15 x 7 fronts. Backspace is 4 1/2"....
I just put on these torque thrust 2s that are the same size. Leaf springs are ESPO hemi plus 2".
