Time to change the "Ferrari spec" oil in my turbo Renegade

Sounds like FCA-Pugeot hooey. Don’t care what is recommended or on the filler cap.
0-30 Amsoil in that one and 0-40 Amsoil in the Hellcat.

For a classic v8 I agree

but on a very late model turbo small displacement engine

gonna hafta disagree

so far the only vehicles I see calling for this spec are the turbo Renegades and the turbo 124 Spyder

...besides Ferrari built engines, that is.

More updates-

Ravenol- Germany only

Total- online order only from boutique stores with associated pricing

Redline- available on amazon and walmart special order.....for $22 per qt!!

Cheap or good. Pick the one that's most important to you.

Good and cheap is possible. Good does not need to be expensive.

yes, they are not necessarily mutually exclusive

the descriptive terms for that are "efficient" or "value"

just takes more homework and situational awareness

I'm not seeing it there

BTY, that particular formulation has been phased out

Thanx - I must still bee buying older stock on the shelves at Bumper to Bumper
Anyways

Yes it has

When in doubt pick up the phone - I called Valvoline and talked to technical support - Nice guy in English by the way

Same product number 966 - New improved european formulation

And was told - Still meets FCA Chrysler MS 12991 Specs
Good enough for me

And we all know the 1.4 Turbo was phased out for 2019
Replaced with a 1.3 Turbo and no more manual transmission

Have no idea what the 1.3 Turbo oil specs are

Peace

@Bee1971

So how do you like yours?

I bought mine because of the manual.

The 8 speed auto has not been getting the best reviews and I'm actually somewhat afraid of any new automatic from a repair cost point of view. I've also heard from owners of the auto equipped version that their gas mileage is nowhere near mine. I get reports of between 22 and 25, while I'm getting 34.5 which is actually about 1 higher than the first year I had it.

Are you using premium gas? I did some research and found that is actually a strong recommendation and not a requirement. I ran several tanks of 93 then switched right to 87. No difference in performance or MPG.

I wonder why Valvoline chose not to include the MS-12...spec on their labeling and product information sheets for the new formulation.

I show Advance stores as carrying the Pennzoil and NAPA as carrying the Havoline, which is currently on sale.

I'm going to check them out in person either today or tomorrow on the way home.

The web showed me that a Pepboys on my way home had the Pennzoil in stock and on sale, but when I got there it was a service only store, not a parts store, so I didn't go in. I printed out the page to have as ammo if they disagree.
Interestingly it was literally right next door to an Advance store.

Strangely enough, I spoke to a Total oil representative last Sunday in the Hanson distributing hospitality tent at the winternatonals. He seemed to know what his product was, I had asked about 20w50 high zinc. Had a pleasant conversation .
There is a local auto parts store that might have the Quartz energy 9000 on the shelf, I could find out the price. I know I could get a discount on the Total thru a friend who does a lot of business with Hanson, but I suspect shipping would cost more than any discount would save. Bee1971, there is a store in lake elsinore if you are in the San Diego area.

Same here , wife wanted another manual

Drove her one owner 2001 Sunfire to the crusher a few years back
300,000 miles and zero zero zero drivetrain issues , factory clutch and pressure plate

Rust was killing the subframes

So now we have a manual Renegade and a manual Outlander Sport

Only issues have been weatherstripping issues on the Renegade , warranty
Power Windows out of alignment , little frustrated with the dealer honestly

Like the drivetrain so far

So...

Looks like the specifically referenced in the owner's manual Pennzoil product has also been reformulated and no longer meets MS-12991.

WTF

I bought the last quart that had the Ferrari emblem on the front. All the rest at Pep-boys were the new formula.

Next stop NAPA and any Advance along the way.

Stopped at a Pep-boys in a different city and the didn't even have the 5w-40 at all.

I have a 2003 Mercedes ML350. The factory says use Mobil 1. That's what I have always done. It has 150,000 miles. It runs great. It uses no oil and makes no noise. When I pull the dip stick out after a few thousand mile the oil still looks clean. I could have used any oil I chose. But what if I chose a different oil and at 100,000 miles it got noisy and used oil? Too late to put that genie back in the bottle. I prefer not to gamble. One thing I know for sure, the manufacturer would never specify oil that they weren't sure about.

Years ago Dad worked in sales at General Electric. They sent him and others to the Dale Carnegie Institute.
They asked the class what it takes to pass the course.
Dad said the course fee.
That didn't go over too well at GE.

Maybe the dealer is getting paid to use a different brand? Maybe the dealer makes more money on a different brand? The manufacturer does provide a warranty. They do have more at stake than the dealer. It's in manufacturer's best interest to recommend good oil. The manufacturers do test oil. There are many good brands but it would be impossible for manufacturer to test every brand for the equivalent of 100,000 miles. So they specify a brand that they know passes their requirements and testing as opposed to providing a list of many that might work.

The only PAO Synthetic left is Amsoil. Rest are not true synthetics. 1.4 is smaller than the 2.8 Blower on top of my Hemi. I’d run the real thing.

Dennis that is not true. There are a lot of true synthetics on the market. Stop spreading false advertising.
Amsoil is not I repeat not the only true synthetic oil.
