Any tips on removing the glue

I have to replace some of the weatherstripping that’s in a couple of my window frames. Curious what you guys use to “release” the glue. These flocked pieces are not coming out to easy. I don’t want to mess up the metal. Whatever glue they used is unreal. Soak them in hot soapy water? Mineral spirits?

Try some naptha and see if it lets it go at all. I had 30 year old plastic protection sheet on some $$$ aluminum a month back that nothing would help release. Naptha (Coleman camp fuel) wiped on and then covered up with plastic for a few hours got it to dry out and let go.

Thanks Wayne,, I’ll give that a try. Really don’t wanna use a razor on this stuff. This is like forever glue, lol

Hey no guarantee it will work on the glue.. but it was the only thing I had in the shop that got old UV'd/bonded on protection sheet off aluminum without a lot of work or damage.

Most glue is oil/petroleum based.
I used to struggle with hot soapy water to get glue or sticker residue off of stuff, then someone told me I'm stupid because oil and water don't mix, told me to use oil.
So I tried it on some sticker residue, you know, when you get something brand new and it's covered with stickers, and if you're lucky enough to get the sticker off you just removed the paper and the stick part never comes off. Then, over time, it collects crap and you're constantly reminded there was a sticker there, that you should have just left alone.
I'm rambling, I put some fresh oil on a rag and it came right off.

I've used WD-40 on some glue. Never had it hurt the paint or finish yet.

On the chrome roof rail I used lacquer thinner to remove the glue left over from the old seal. Just have to be careful not to drip any on the paint. Remove as much of the old foam seal as possible first.

Lighter fluid is very good at dissolving sticker residue!!!! Does not hurt finishes either.

Wayne, you ever use superbee210? I used a product called feremede210 for initial cleaning of stainless buildings to get the coating off!I googled it and superbee210 came up,coincidence!

I've been very surprised at the results of castrol superclean for dissolving deposits!not sure about paint compatibility, I'd test it on an inconspicuous spot to find out! I know it works for creosote and it's the only thing I've found that works,tried everything else!

Soak it in mineral spirits. You can apply a rag wetted laid against the area. Give it 5 minutes or so. Most times the glue balls up and comes off clean.
