Tips for successful undercoating removal ?

I looked a 67 Charger not long ago in BC Nice looking car from the pictures. I asked about pictures of the bottom. The undercoat must of been very fresh. It was so thick a glob fell off and landed on the camera lense. Every rust hole was packed with that crap.

as for removal of the old undercoat. I use a heat gun and thick putty knives. Its a dirty job.

I tried oven cleaner first. The cheap, and then the good. Used 2 cans of each in a relatively small area. Neither one fazed it.

I sprayed minerals spirits all over the night before, let it sit over night. The next day with a scraper most of it peeled right off. Used a heat gun on some of the stubborn areas. Swept it all up when I was done and I removed close to 48 lbs off of my car. (Race car now).

The good paint stripper, the one you don’t and can’t breathe around. In minutes soft enough to use a plastic scraper. Just did my fender. Wiped down with Walmart brake cleaner $1.97 a can, carb cleaner dries to fast. I buy them 10-20 at a time both $1.97
Keep adding, if you don’t mind the little dings, an air chizzle held off the surface at an angle knocks big chunks off fast too.

I found the non-flammable mineral spirits or paint thinner works best for me. No danger of fire and breathable. Spray it on, let sit a couple of hours and scrape off or use the metal fingers.

Well I don't want to be left out. So I'm going to give my two cents.
Yes propane torch or even a good heat gun will do. But the heat gun take more time obviously. And yes a few ale and some good tunes for sure. I had mine (still is) on a rotisseri. You have the hoist so you should stay fairly comfy. That's what it all about in the latter years of life. lol
I read you leaving your wheel wells coated. I stripped mine since it's a full resto for blasting and epoxy. But I used a normal kitchen table spoon to get into the angle of the tubs. Worked great. Here's a shot of all the under coating that came off my 70 Charger. Took about a good 4 afternoons with the obligatory beer breaks. 10-4?
Five gallon bucket there for reference. Yes that's all of it.
