Easiest carb to set up. Holley or refurbished Thermoquad?

TQ is a spreadbore pattern carb as is your manifold. Fitting a squarebore carb will need adapter - yuk.

You can make an adapter out of Eucalyptus if you are in AU,it will last forever !!

IDK about a big block but I did t need one on my small block. AFB to OE-TQ, gasket only, no problems or issues. I don’t see why it would be different for a B/RB.

A Holley may have an issue that I’m unaware of.

Bill, most of our eucalypts are still smouldering....

B/RB? He has a stock '74 360 4bbl, that afaik had a TQ fitted. Would need an adapter to fit a squarebore Holley or like. No?!

Thermoquad is a good carb when its done right. Biggest problem I see with them is most don't understand them and get them all messed up when they try to work on them. If you want to do your own carb work but don't know carbs well I would not go with the thermoquad. If you know them well then the thermoquad can work great if its set right. Nothing wrong with an Eddy carb as they are basically AFB's or AVS's. For performance I love the Holley carb but for a nice running driver the Eddy or thermoquad work nice. They can also work good for performance its just my taste prefers the Holley for all out performance. Ron

I've been working with T/Q for years and they work, never had a real issue with any.Granted, the well under the main jet can leak but that is an easy fix,as for bowl problems the only ones I have seen cracked or broken in any way were those that had been dropped. On a rebuild or whatever you want to call it,there are some where around eleven adjustments that are to be "made in sequence", do one out of order and you mess up everything from that point on.

TQ, that air door makes it easy to adjust to ANY engine preferences. Look for any of these kits above, makes for simple adjustments of jets on whatever carb you get. TQ, AVS, AFB. Remember Chrysler carbs have the correct linkage without the Chevy adapters. Edelbrock made one with the factory type linkage also.

this is very helpful. Same principles for each model

Stay away from parts store and mail order TQ's! Only go with places like Harms and some others who a proper rebuild, bush the throttle plates etc. Mass produced rebuilders do not do this. You just get a worn out pile with a carb kit in it if you are lucky.

I bought a Holley 650 BP factory direct from Holley and it was a piece of cake. A few minor adjustments to the set screws and she was done.

Im looking to replace the carb on my 74 charger. (All stock 360 4 bbl.) which would be easier to setup and get running out of the box: Refurbished (by Summit), or new Holley (which ever Holley is most compatible for my motor). I plenty mechanically inclined, just not in the fine art of carbuerator set up. (Im not a racer or speedster, just cruise around the neighborhood).Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
