Ladies, Gents, I call upon the assistance of the great wise ones.

Yes I Know the search bar is our best friend, but it doesn’t seem to really be answering my questions, at least in the way that I’m looking. So why not add to the hundreds of threads about this topic.

The engine is out of my car and thought I’d look into to changing the rake of my 1967 Satellite. Currently the car is sitting on 14x7 Centerlines, front and back, 4” of backspacing, with 235/60/R14 in the front and 245/60/R14 in the back. It’s way too small for my current taste. I’d like much taller and much wider tire in the rear. Something like 315s.
Goes without saying I’ll have to upgrade bigger wheels for better selection.
Can I achieve a good look with the tire on a 15x8 wheel or will 15x10s be necessary.

And the important bit. As I understand it - the widest tire you can into the rear fender well is about - 255. I am not willing to tub the car (I just don’t like cutting metal) but am I willing to maybe flare the lips.

Does anyone know how much tire can go in if I use a spring relocation kit? IIRC it adds about 3 inches of room. For the tire height could I end up installing Super Stock springs to cover me? Does anyone have experience in this field? What about shorting or adjusting the axles locations.

Im going for a very 80s, boy racer, street machine look. High in the rear but not quite the “stink bug” look. If it helps I find the Motown “Silver Bullet” GTX look to be almost the perfect idea of what I’m going for except just a little wider tires.

The rear fenders on the Silver Bullet were flared out.
Look close.
Without tubbing it, I don't see how you will get a 10" wheel under it.

Its tough getting wide tires under the rear with out doing some flaring..on my old 67 I had G60x14s on the rear and it was just enough without rubbing.. I love that body style..

A 275/60-15 is a great look you can have without much work. The outer wheel house is where it will rub, not the lip.

look at these pictures.
1st is the outer wheel house, look where the tire rubbed off the undercoating. This needs to be moved outward. I did this by scraping off the undercoating, heating. With a. Torch and pushing it out with a piece of wood powered by a bottle jack against the inner wheelhouse, worked GREAT!

2nd picture is looking straight up from the bottom, see how that outer wheel house sticks in further than the wheel lip?

go look at your car and feel up there.

You will NOT be putting a 315 tire on this car without cutting on it.
315 millimeters is 12.4 inches. Most of the pictures you posted are modified cars with big tires that won’t fit a stock wheel well.

A little MORE tire than the silver bullet without cutting? that is some funny stuff there!! LOL

The inner quarter panel juts inside the wheel well so even if you have room at the wheel arch lip you have that protuberance to interfere with your tires. Some have fit 275-60-15's on 8 inch rims but it takes the right backspacing. The biggest I had run is a 255-60-15 on a 7 inch rim with 4 inch backspacing, had plenty of room to spare to allow tire flex for cornering under different loads.

Excuse my ignorance. This is my first B-Body. I’m traditionally a C-Body guy and have never had to even think about ride height, tires, stance etc. You just slap once a set of Cooper Trendsetter whitewalls 235/75R15s on a 15” stocker wheel and call it a day!

Do you think a mini-tub could accomplish that goal? Or would much more work be involved? I’m inclined to keep my rear interior and trunk.

I like the look of flares, would just need to find someone skilled in them.

Is shortening the axle an option?

If you are considering a spring relocation kit and narrowing the rear end to me it only makes sense to go ahead and do the mini tub

Mini tubs will give you about 3" and you will have to move the springs into the frame to take advantage of that......which will be the next move on my 66.

To bad you have those lousy sideways pics, it really makes it hard for giving you a honest opinion about what your looking for. Good Luck

Sorry wasn’t thinking about that. The only full side profile pictures I have is with the motor out. Didn’t wanna post and give the wrong impression about the height.

I have a 4.5” back space on my 67 Charger, with 15x8. but I have more room in the well. Using a 275x60 tire, almost 28” tall. My friend added a leaf, on his 67 Sport Satellite because the Mopar Performance springs sagged as soon as he installed them. That gave him enough room for a 15x8 rim. Don’t remember his tire size.
