Car is finally running but the tank has a ton of rust in it.
I look on AMD and the 74-76 tank is 450 bucks.
Will the 72-73 tank work on my 74?
What modifications would it need?

Anyone have a good used one for sale?

Ok, I found a gas tank from a local guy 100 bucks.
It's a non expansion top 74 single exhaust. He pulled it from a 74.
Do I need to do anything special to it like purchase one of the expansion tanks that goes under the speakers? Or would I just not fill the tank up to full when it sets for a little while?

When you say a non-expansion top, does that mean the top of the tank is flat rather than have the bulge like your stock 74 tank has? Just remember your trunk floor and braces have the bulge for the expansion gas tank in the bottom side of the trunk floor. A flat top gas tank like the 71-73 gas tanks will not fit right under the trunk floor because of the bulge. You may have to put something on top of the non stock tank so it doesn't move around. Just a thought. See the trunk for photo for the trunk floor bulge I'm talking about which is what yours should look like.

OK. So it might move around a little bit then.
The guy says it's in a survivor and is the original tank for the 74 he's pulling it from. He understands the bulges and says this will work but does not have the expansion tank.
And he says it's a single exhaust tank.

He's full of crap. .there is no such thing as a different tank for single vs dual exhaust cars. .i have several 74 chargers. Not trying to be arrogant but false info annoys me. New spectra tanks are worth the money unless you can find a real 74 tank that is clean. Also I've never heard of an expansion tank unless he's talking about a charcoal canister which is under the hood on a 74. A California emission 74 may have some other canister in the trunk but I've never seen one and don't know if that was even a thing in a 74 California car

The 73 tank has several different vent/charcoal tubes coming out of it whereas the 74 is different

this is why I'm asking. I need correct info from multiple sources.

I have a tank out of a 74 charger se, but it's been dented bad on the underside, but ya, you will want to stay with the odd shaped 74 tank with the bump in it

All 71 to 74 tanks have the same basic dimensions except for that 74 only top bulge.

The main differences between the 71-73 are the number of vent tubes and their location.

73 has a vent manifold that is a separate part, mounted in front of the tank, that connects 4 vents, one from each corner of the 73 tank.

I believe a different design of that is what is in the bulge on top of the 74 tank.
