My credit card number was stolen

I rarely ever carry more, than around $20 in cash. Just don’t like to have a lot of cash on me. I pay everything with either credit or debit and always pay my card off at the end of the billing cycle. I don’t see how you can get along without at least one card. They say debit cards are the worst for getting hacked. Haven’t been tapped yet but I’m always on the lookout. Identify theft is by far the fasted most prevalent type of crime these days. Cash is going out of style. There are some businesses that won’t even take it anymore. I’m talking restaurants. I think it was in NYC they had to pass a law forcing them to continue taking some cash. Weird

Try renting a car with cash. I never use a credit card in a restaurant. If you have a credit it will probably happen to you at some point. Someone in Texas charged gas on my Discover number, they made a phoney card. Discover shut the card down, wife in Costco had to use cash to pay. New card 2 days later.
Dollar will rent on a Debit Card.

I must admit that it's nice to have a fat bank account so you don't have to worry about these things. at least that's what my Father taught me at a early age. Maybe that's why I'm a better money manager than a lot of others in the world! And my Dad was a stingy person when it came to money, liked to see it come in, but hated to see it go out.
Your father probably grew up in the depression era, right?

But also, if a person has the money to pay for their purchases in cash they can pay off their credit card balance with that money and not pay interest. And get free trips and stuff off the points they accumulate.

Exactly. I use the credit card for everything I buy. Even a single candy bar. Pay the balance in full each month before the due date. I have not paid interest in so long I cant remember. My wife and I fly somewhere twice a year and use the points I have accumulated on my card. Pay no interest and fly for free.

Yup, I used to try and pay my balance just before the cut off date but a few times due to delays it didn’t go through in time and I had to pay interest. What I do now is this: wife and I get paid every two weeks, but offset by a week so that one of us gets paid every Friday morning.
So every Friday morning while I’m having my coffee I go online and pay my balance to zero. Overkill? Sure, but I never pay interest. And I have enough points to go where I want and stay there for free.
Cash? We use that at garage sales. And I always have a few hundred “mad” money in case. Just in case.

Wife got hers cloned or something a few years back, she called to check her balance and it was way off from her calculations so they were literally tracking purchases while she was on the phone and cops got em a few towns over. They were from Illinois with a bunch of copied cards. Buying gas, cigarettes, sonic and they got em at Target.
They were driving down one road buying stuff.

My friend's son had his bank card hacked. He noticed two small transactions that he didn't make and reported it to his bank. They cancelled his card and gave him another.

The hackers from foreign countries will make one or two small hits on an account to see if it gets noticed. Small denominations are only a misdemeanor in most countries. If the transactions on the account go unnoticed then they'll try to max it out. This was explained to me by a credit card company employee.

We charge everything on credit cards. Never ever carry a balance and haven’t paid interest or fees in decades.

Last year we got roughly 1,200 cash back from using the cards.
Wife is a shark with this ****. We both have 850 credit scores and get offered the best cards regularly. Oftentimes, we get cash for opening a new card and using it for a few months. Last one was 300 bucks to open an account and charge 3000 in 60 days. They are banking on irresponsible folks to carry a balance.

Cash is great for swap meets, tips and the occasional transaction between friends.

Yeah, one fat lady buying a candy bar with her card makes everyone the same. Uh huh. Nice try.
Here’s a piece of news for ya: if you pay off your credit card balance in full you don’t pay ANY interest. THAT is what smart people do. You know, the ones with money.
Also you get cash back with the rewards program. I once let mine build up and got over $900 back.

What does that have to do with anything? Yes, he did!

It explains why you can manage your money with or without credit. My father taught me the same things. The depression made that generation into better money managers. The lessons that they taught us are being lost because credit is to easy to get.

Yep our Dad was one tight wad with his money. Never made over 28k in his life, worked for 44 years in the Oil Industry, raised 4 boys and supported a wife, and much more. Never went without for the most part either. Christmas was always full of toys and wonderment at how the heck did he pull it off. But he did. He taught my Brother well. Me being the oldest and always the rebel of the bunch, I unfortunately, never grasped that concept earlier so I always was having money problems until the clue light came on. Thanks to my Brother, I now have embraced those concepts he got from our Pop. Now I am very aware of how to manage my money and my investments and how I spend. Funny that even later in life, we can all change for the better both in a personal way and in a group way. And the poster that said they use there card for everything? Just wait till the grid goes down and no electronic transactions are able to be done. Now what are you going to do if you never have any, "CASH???" I guess with some you can lead them to water but cannot make them drink. Good luck using that concept of a card all the time...Just sayin' is all...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Oh don't misunderstand, I prefer cash I like the way it feels to have a wad of $100 Bill's in my pocket. That's how I knew, we were always doing things differently than everyone else. Always had a 2 acre garden to harvest, butchered our own beef etc. What I mean is we were lucky to get those hard nose lessons from that generation.

Maybe this is the problem with today's youth, parents don't/won't teach their children **** about anything, yet the children think they know everything and your the dumbass! I guess that makes me a better adult then many others.

I dont think "some" grasp the concept that especially in your line of work a credit card is a necessity.
I personally dont buy coffee, the daily paper and a bagel with a CC. What I do is pay cash and leave the change as a tip. I do however refrain from acting like what works for me is good for others and passing judgement.
I also think for the reason's given keeping a set amount of cash around is a sound thing to do.
But thats just my opinion

Well I suppose, I do carry a credit card only for emergency purposes.
