My credit card number was stolen

Well I suppose, I do carry a credit card only for emergency purposes.

And I have 2 of them, I just never use them unless truly needed, or just to make & keep it somewhat active.

Absolutely correct, I know people who have multiple cards and carry balances on each of them. It's got to be mind numbing to keep track of.

As a previous business owner of a busy restaurant I didn't like cash. Its costly to count and balance, was open to theft buy anyone until it was deposited, costs money to deposit cash in the bank (yes its true), and is a filthy bulky product to handle. I would rather a customer paid by debit or CC anytime. That said, most (busy) businesses don't mind someone paying for a chocolate bar with plastic.
I personally take advantage of using the right credit card giving me cash back, free extended warranty, free auto club, travel insurance ect. The balance gets paid by due date and all is good.
My card has been hacked 2x in my life and both times the bank sent me a inquiry on strange purchases. They immediately reversed the charges and sent me a new card. Doesn't deter me one bit.

I stopped using cash for many reasons. First was the points back to me. Free money handed back to me from the bank, that was a no brainer. I dont like a lump in my pocket, especially loose change. And I dont have to go to the bank to get more cash all the time.

I do carry cash on me all the time. Never know when catastrophe might strike and machines stop working. We have several grand in cash in the house. Just take from it when I get low on carry cash, which is not often.

I agree, taking payment by card is so much easier to track and you almost always balance! Young people that worked for my wife could not count change.

I don't worry about all that crap, I think it's stupid stuff. What I do worry about is my transactions being followed and what my spending habits are. Maybe I also just like my privacy and not being tracked of everything I do!

If they want to track that I bought a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs god bless ‘em. None of us are really as interesting as we think we are. I’ll throw them a bone:
I just bought a gallon of milk. Have a party.

What is it with French Toast items all the time?

Doesn't matter if you pay with a card or cash....you're getting tracked with cameras everywhere these days.

pretty hard to not have a credit card today & online purchases etc.
of course unless you can't get one, bitter
or you can't pay it/them off monthly
or can't control your spending/budget, like many losers do
or just too stupid to know any better
or have **** credit rating, over extended too many times
or live in grandmas or someone else's basement
or you don't have a job for a long time, don't plan to anytime soon
or on living on welfare etc.

I hope the OP get's the **** sorted out

It's sorted. Got the new credit card today. I was thinking, last year I was part of a couple of those data breaches they keep talking about in the news. One was a health care company and the other was Equifax I believe. I got free credit monitoring through those two screw ups, but it only lasts 1 year. I wonder if this incident could have been from that?

To each their own. I personally don't have anything to hide. I don't care how the CC companies are tracking my fuel, grocery, ect purchases. I'm not buying anything bad, except maybe for some trans fatty snacks! I receive about $1500 a year back from using the cards. That pays for some nice stuff for my toys. Twice I used the extended warranty that was part of the cards benefits... on a laptop and a laser printer. Both were fixed for free. Twice my luggage was delayed till next day in Newark. Both times my CC paid for the hotel, meals, a change of clothes and taxi cabs. Gotta love it. But its good not everyone uses it or they would probably scale the benefits back lol.

Got a check coming for 110 bucks from mine. That's a shot in the arm for me....and only put about 600 a month on it. Groceries and a couple of bills are the only things that goes on the card along with the DTV and I never carry a balance.

Start using it for everything. Your kick back will increase. The credit industry call us "dead beats". We dont make them any money.

I like cash, it's still king when you buy certain things
I use my American Express for a lot of stuff,
some really depends on what it is...

I don't spend more with credit cards,
than I have in the bank to pay it off every month
when I can help it, it's a great practice, served me well...

I get 'better cash back' with certain cards than others

I like the automatic insurance protections you get
for purchasing with a credit card too !!!
that you don't get, with cash or even a check

yeah the 1% - 3% cash back on My Visa
on groceries
or eating out
or gas/fuel especially
or auto-pay many of the monthly bills etc.
or cars/trucks/boat registration DMV online
really is a nice bonus, write 1 or 2 checks & use 1 or 2 stamps
instead of 4-10 checks & stamps, that's even more savings

between $20-$50-$70+ back or more, a month alone
just for the daily/monthly ****
I use to have to write checks & mail them in for
$600-$1000 cash back a year, most years

even car parts I get $$ back, from purchases
that's a win, win in my book, cha ching $$$$

my dad uses his American Express 3% cash back for most everything
while he's away
he spends a shitload on road trips, eats out always, RV space rental
diesel fuel, shows, trinkets $120-$160-$200+ daily etc.
& that adds up pretty fast
