Is there anyway to adhere the header gasket to the header before..

After pulling the starter to secure the wiring, as it was loose on the terminal, my question is how can one adhere or "stick" the Header Gasket to the Header when attempting to re-attach the header to the engine?
1. Drivers side
2. 426 Hemi
3. TTI headers
4. Torsion bar in place
Can a person use "Super Glue" ? (small amounts in certain areas to hold gasket in place)
I had the torsion bar out on install, hate to go through that again....

Not sure about the angle of a HEMI Head, or if you have the room, but on my RB I use a stud on the front and back holes.
They hold the gasket and help to align the header for the remaining bolts

I am eyeballing that option and it seems to be the definitive way to go Vintage Chromoly!
Going to ACE hardware tomorrow morning for those studs!
Thank you
I'll let you know how it goes!

I've used sewing thread, burns off. Tie gasket to header flange. The hi-temp silicone might be better, stick gasket to flange let dry over night.

I've slotted the bottom of the hole in the gasket (front and back hole) and slid it in between the header and head before. I like useing a stud at each end of the head and bolts for the rest.

How about putting a couple small diameter bolts in the flange holes, tape the heads in place, and hang the gaskets on them ?

Hi temp silicone is only a little better than regular silicone at 600 degrees. I like Fran's first idea...just tie it on to get you through the process.

Hey Ski, I just replaced the starter on the Coronet last weekend, what a PITA! I've had to remove the headers on the Dart a couple of times too for various reasons. The Coronet has studs and the Dart has the Stage 8 bolts that don't back out. Either one, I didn't use any adhesive. Of course the studs are a little easier since the gasket hangs on the stud while lining up the header. But even on the Dart I ran a bolt through the first and last header flange hole, hung the gasket on the bolt thread and carefully aligned. In both cases someone was underneath holding up the collector.
BTW you didn't mention what gasket you're using but I would recommend Remflex. They're a little more expensive and very fragile when handling, but once in place your headers will not leak. Good luck

I was wondering IF it would weaken the gasket with a residue?
Good solution
I tried some string tie but it tore the original TTI header gasket at the rear
(I ordered new Gaskets)
Truly a Tight Spot

They are the TTI gaskets, quite durable but the rear "hole" became a bit damaged due to my attempt to use string tie, so yeah, I like the Stud idea, tomorrow (Friday morning) I'm going to ACE Hardware for 2 studs to try your idea, thank you!

Hmmm, I have not thought of this!
Very clever, I'll use some small Duct tape on 2 bolts...I will give it a try!
Great idea
(why didn't I think of this?)

Going to try the "stud"
Thanks for this advice

I've always used studs. Place the header flange on the studs, leaving a gap. Cut notches under the bolt/stud holes on the header gasket. Then you can slide/insert the gasket over the studs in between the head and the header flange. Then complete sliding the header against the head. Install nuts and tighten.

As mentioned before spray glue works excellently. 3M, Permatex, and others sell gasket adhesive. Just wipe your metal with wax/grease remover, thinner, or some other cleaner. Then spray your gasket and give it a minute to tack up before pressing it on.

Thanks for the info
Ordered new gasket as the old one was a bit torn at the top rear side.....

I've used long set screws on the two ends to hang the gasket and header, then after installing couple bolts you can remove the set screws.
