My son bought a commuter car and the engine promptly grenaded. I mean pieces of the block flew off the size of baseballs. So he's lurking around local pull and pays and a low milage model comes in that was hit hard in the back. He wants it! He and a friend start pulling the engine on Saturday and make progress but didn't finish. The next day, Sunday we have a horrible snowstorm but they are nervous someone will swoop in and get their engine that they've already worked so hard on. Well, they got it home.

This weekend Saturday was beautiful but his mom had scheduled to take him skiing so he couldn't work then. Today in an open garage with all kinds of snow outside he plopped the engine in and drive it around the block.

That would have taken me all summer.

Back in the ‘70’s my community would have a massive, drunken three day bush party on the May long weekend. It was about a hundred miles from town. Hundreds would show up, from a community of just over a thousand.
I was in grade twelve but had been attending for a few years.
It was common to skip school Friday afternoon to get out there early for a good spot.
Thursday the vice principal made the announcement that anyone skipping school Friday to attend the party would be expelled.
My buddies truck had a blown transmission. We laid in a good supply of beer and started changing out the transmission Thursday after school. Still not finished, we skipped school Friday morning and continued the install. About noon Friday we are standing beside the completed truck, beer in hand, when the vice principal drives by. He makes eye contact, and does a double take when he sees the beers in our underaged hands.
We pick up the vice principals daughter, and attend the three day bash.
He never said a word, ever.
None of us liked her, and didn’t do anything, but we correctly guessed that she would be a good insurance policy.
Three drunk teenagers changed a four speed in a chev pick up truck in an afternoon and a morning, out in the driveway.
Forty five years later it takes me that long and longer to do any car related project.

Left work Friday and trailered 14 hours to a race, slept in the truck for 3 hours, prepped and teched the car, attended drivers meetings, had dinner and a few drinks, slept 5 hours, raced and won my class, loaded the trailer up, drove 14 hours home, and went to work NOT fresh as a daisy Monday AM.

My buddy Mike and I were were just 16. The transmission in his '73 Dart 4 door went out. He called me up and told me that he bought a used transmission and asked if I would bring my dad's jack stands over so that he wouldn't have to support the car with concrete blocks while he changed the transmission, (which we knew was unsafe.. even at 16 years old). The one car garage was so short, that the door rested on the trunk of the Dart. It was snowing like crazy. All of Mike's tools combined fit into an old tackle box... (translation: we didn't have too many to pick from). We used a crescent wrench and channel locks a lot since we didn't have too many wrenches or sockets.

Two kids who had barely even changed oil before swapped the tranny and were driving the car the next evening.

....I think it was June of 89' I went to the my first outdoor concert in Texas, the Texas Jam. It was like 105 that day and we showed up in a 68 Pontiac Le Mans painted like the Bat Mobile. Beer in the trunk was slightly hotter than the outside....and we thought it was a good idea to drink it and listen to Whitesnake, and Tesla. Hehe, man.....what mess. 3 puke soaked hrs later....we all got back in the Le Mans and manged to to make it back to the buddies house with puke down both sides of his car.....amazing!
