What is the best way to separate the inner structure from a hood, trunk lid, ect without too much damage to the skin? Thanks

Chances are you will need to locate the spot welds and just drill out the inner to the outer. Without going all the way through. Use a heat gun to soften the caulking and use a olfa knife. With fresh blades. The only drawback is when you seperate the two. They will lose there square. From twisting. Some may say you will require a jig to bond the two back together. To keep those two parts square.

the deck lid in another issue beings the skin is folded over. Tough to do without creating more damage.

^ This. The trick is to get centered on the spot weld. Low bit speed with a bit of oil and firm pressure.
