i'm looking into possibly installing 3rd gen hemi into my 74 charger but have heard that it is very expensive and a lot of mods in order to make it work. im assuming that it has been done but have not found info on the extent and or mods/cost...any help would be greatly appreciated
I plan to swap a 2008 6.1L into a '69 Coronet and have been looking at the different options.
I don't know exactly about the '73-'74 with the different K-member / suspension setup, but on mine, I need to decide if I want to use the original K-Member and then swap oil pan, Use the motor swap mounts, and I think an oil filter adaptor?
Or use an aftermarket K-Member. I am leaning towards the more expensive aftermarket K-Member option, because you get the Rack and pinion steering with coil over suspension. That should make header clearance better.
Then transmission selection. I bought the 6.1L with the NAG1 Transmission, so I want to use that transmission, but it needs a transmission controller, and the stock type shifter for a 2008 SRT. I am also using the throttle by wire, so need the electronic accelerator pedal assembly.
The take out I have came with the wiring and ECU. I heard that the stock electronics can be re-programmed / modified to work, or maybe just use an aftermarket controller like the Holley Dominator ECU. I'm not sure the Dominators ECU transmission control will work with the NAG, it's configured for the GM electronic transmissions. If the Holley will control my transmission (need to call holley and check as they mention "more transmissions to come") that would be my preference because a stand alone transmission controller costs about the same as the Holley Dominator ECU.
Anyhow, none of that is an issue if using a manual transmission or 727 (with manual valve body, or convert the drive-by-wire throttle body to a mechanical operated throttle body and hook up a transmission kick down cable?)
